Arci Caccia Pistoia “if maintenance is not carried out, the Fucecchio marshes are at risk”
Arci Caccia Pistoia recently raised its concerns regarding the environmental management of the Fucecchio Marshes. In a letter sent to the Tuscany Region, the association asked for the intervention of the Departments of the Environment and Agriculture to review the current rules governing mowing of cinnamon and other marsh herbs.

According to Arci Caccia, the current restrictions prohibiting the use of noisy vehicles due to mowing and the obligation to remove the cut material, not only enormously complicate the maintenance of the area, but they also risk seriously damaging the unique ecosystem of the Fucecchio Marshes, leading the area to total abandonment and transforming it into an immense reed thicket with little environmental diversification.

The association underlines that the maintenance of roads and open areas is essential for prevent abandonment and consequent degradation of this area, which has prospered for centuries thanks to careful and precise management. If the appropriate maintenance is not carried out, according to the association, the ideal habitat for numerous species of birds that prefer an alternation of reeds and open environments will be compromised.

Given the imminence of the cleaning operations of open spaces scheduled for August, Arci Caccia Pistoia urges a rapid and incisive response from the Tuscany Region.
