TF Interview – Leonardo La Cava (Uscatanzarocalcionews.it): “Vivarini’s football is spectacular and offensive, but character is his Achilles’ heel”

Vincenzo Vivarini and the Frosinone Football they want to put down their agreements in black and white to start a new professional marriage but first there is the issue to overcome Catanzaro. The yellow-blue club has identified the heir of the Atri coach, born in ’66 Eusebio Di Francesco and is ready to open a new cycle once the bureaucratic issue with the Calabrian club has been resolved, a company with which Vivarini currently has an existing contract. Precisely to find out more closely what the technical characteristics favored by the Abruzzo coach are, we contacted the journalist Leonardo La Cava Of Uscatanzarocalcionews.it who thus tells us about the now former Eagles coach.

So Leonardo, in recent days Vincenzo Vivarini has made his farewell to the Catanzaro bench official. Now, the Abruzzo coach would be among the main suspects to sit on the Frosinone bench in place of Eusebio Di Francesco. Can you give us your point of view on the situation in this regard?

“At the moment what is certain is that the coach has communicated to theUS Catanzaro the desire not to continue on the Eagles’ bench, a decision that took everyone by surprise. The Giallorossi club has taken note of this and through its greatest exponent, i.ePresident Floriano Noto, announced that the parties will discuss it in the appropriate forums. Our interpretation is that if a consensual termination is not reached, regulations in hand, the appropriate forum is the FIGC arbitration panel. This is because, it must be remembered, the coach is bound to Catanzaro with an existing contract expiring on June 30, 2025 plus one year option. The coach’s decision, beyond the legitimate aspirations, in terms of manner and timing, aroused the indignation of the Catanzaro fans, also because, only a month earlier, Vivarini had sworn loyalty to the Catanzaro shirt.”

Having now taken over from Antonio Calabro a couple of seasons ago, Vivarini was able to bring Catanzaro back to Serie B after several years and even came close to doing so in the last cadet playoffs, stopping only in the semi-finals. What kind of season was last and what can you tell us from the technical point of view of Ari’s coaching. What are his strengths and, if any, his weaknesses. What is the best memory, in your opinion, that the Calabrian fans will take with them?

“Vivarini coach, in this case I am referring from a professional point of view, was a champion capable of designing a team according to his playing philosophy which tends towards spectacular and offensive football. He was very intelligent when he took over from Mr Calabro so as not to overturn what was the basic system, initially working on the 3-5-2. Arriving at the end of November, he was satisfied by the company who intervened on the January market by adding large elements of depth to the squad, including the bomber. Iemmello. The foundations were laid there for Catanzaro who then triumphed in Serie C the following year, winning the championship with a record. The coach’s strong point is the idea he has of football which must still find the support of the club. Let me explain better, to get results from his work he needs time. In Catanzaro he had full support first of all from the club which supported and fulfilled every request, then he had the support of an entire fan base who demonstrated great maturity, especially after the heavy home defeat against Parma (0-5) in the last season, to applaud the team and the coach. What works against him? From the way I think I got to know him these two and a half years in Catanzaro, I believe that his Achilles’ heel is his character. Introverted, not very expansive and above all he doesn’t like to be contradicted, in defeats in particular.”

In addition to the potential arrival of the expert coach, in Ciociaria there is talk of a possible inclusion in the negotiation of two other players, who have done well in Catanzaro this season. We are talking about Vandeputte and Antonini. Do you have any feedback on this and what type of players are they from a technical point of view?

“Will Vandeputte and Antonini follow the coach to Frosinone? Certainly the coach has been crazy about Vandeputte, Catanzaro to bring him back to Calabria (after the loan) has bent over backwards that he might be deprived of him, I don’t rule it out, the Belgian still has a two-year contract with the Eagles, until 2026 and not, as is mistakenly written by many, in 2025. It certainly represents a strong point for Catanzaro, and it is also due to the intuition of Calabro who, even before Vivarini, moved him from the right wing to the left, achieving great results. If today Catanzaro has to give up a talent like Vandeputte I don’t think it will be done at a valuation lower than 4/4.5 million euros. Finally Vandeputte in Catanzaro is great!!! On Antonini It seems strange to me that Vivarini requested it, ask him himself why (… ). But here too we are talking about a high rating. Antonini arrived in Catanzaro in the last session of the winter transfer market and a month later Bologna knocked on the club’s doors to ask for his transfer for around 2.5 million euros in June, or now, a request which was rejected by the sender.”

Given the philosophy of sustainable, proactive football based mostly on young talents, do you think Vincenzo Vivarini could be the ideal profile for Frosinone, in order to continue “embracing” this philosophy?

“If Vivarini can be the ideal coach for Frosinone? I understand that President Stirpe, just as the present Noto is for sustainable football, no crazy expenses and space for young people. The inclusion of young people in Catanzaro occurred gradually… Vivarini in Catanzaro has always focused on a basic system and still loves good, strong and established footballers… I therefore cannot answer whether he is the coach who does for Frosinone”.

Finally, coming more closely to the events at Catanzaro, what is, at the moment, the most accredited name on the bench to take the place of Vivarini himself? There has been a lot of talk about Aquilani, who seems to also be on the yellow and blue short list.

“Who will replace him on the Catanzaro bench? Alberto Aquila, all the clues point to him.”
