A feast for the eyes but also for the ears the seven evenings of Barber shopRossini signed by Hugo De Ana. Fondazione Arena has put together an international cast of refined bel canto singers, who will alternate until 6 September, all under the direction of George PetrouGreek maestro making his debut in the Amphitheatre, eclectic in his repertoire but particularly popular and appreciated in the Italian baroque and 18th century, who has Rossini’s necessary background: in addition to leading the Arena Foundation Orchestra and the Choir, prepared by Roberto Gabbiani, Petrou will also sit at the fortepiano, personally accompanying the lively recitatives in which Sterbini’s comedy unfolds, set to music by Rossini.
At the premiere, Friday at 9.30pm, the protagonist will be the young baritone Mattia Olivieri in the role of Figaro, the Count of Almaviva we will have the tenor Rene Barbera at her Arena debut, the mezzo-soprano Vasilisa Berzhanskaya it will be Rosina. Let’s see you then Paul Burgundy (Don Bartolo) -another Arena debut- e Roberto Wine cutter (Basilio). Berta completes the cast Marianna Mapthe Fiorellos and Ambrogio, both played by Nicholas Cerianiand the rookie Officer Domenico Apollonio.
In subsequent performances other great artists will alternate, making each evening a premiere: in July we will see Nicola Alaimo’s Figaro, Dmitry Korchak’s Conte, Riccardo Fassi’s Basilio, Misha Kiria’s Bartolo. From August 24th the Sevillian garden will be animated by Davide Luciano, Lawrence Brownlee, Alexander Vinogradov, Carlo Lepore and Jessica Pratt, Rosina sopranile for new pyrotechnic vocal variations.
After the premiere on Friday 21 June at 9.30 pm, The Barber of Seville repeats on June 27th (at 9.30pm), with new cast on July 6 and 12 (at 9.15pm), then with other interpreters on 24 and 31 August and 6 September (always at 9pm).
