PULSANO – The man who yesterday allegedly wounded a 31-year-old criminal with a gunshot to the right arm near a fish shop in Torricella, in the Monacizzo area, has been identified and arrested by the police. He is a 53-year-old criminal who will now have to answer for attempted murder, illegal possession of a clandestine weapon in a public place, illegal possession of a clandestine firearm, firing gunshots in a public place and receiving stolen goods.
The 31-year-old, who has a criminal record for drug dealing, went to the emergency room at Manduria hospital yesterday morning to have his forearm wound treated. His car, riddled with bullets, was later found inside a farm in Lizzano. The man claimed to have been hit by a gunshot while he was in the countryside between Lizzano and Pulsano, but his story was not considered credible and he was therefore reported for aiding and abetting.
The video surveillance system in the area captured the sequence of the attempted murder. The images show a person firing several gunshots in the direction of the 31-year-old, who was in his car. The man believed to be the perpetrator of the shooting, reached by investigators, indicated the place where he had hidden the gun, which turned out to have its serial number erased.
The 53-year-old, taken to prison awaiting the validation hearing, has a criminal record for mafia-style association, property crimes, crimes against the person and drug-related crimes.
