«Selling means losing a fundamental asset»

The workers’ mobilization resumes Italian Bus Industry. Yesterday, employees of the Valle Ufita plant crossed their arms for four hours at the end of each shift. «As if the strong concerns about the sale to the Seri group were not enough, as highlighted by the workers’ representatives in a united manner, the production management adds further chaos, advancing the production lines without completing the various phases and putting the safety of workers and the quality of the product are at risk». The RSU complain that the company is deaf to the numerous reports from workers.

Meanwhile, it grows political support for the unions’ battle and the workers of the Italian Bus Industry. The Democratic Party group in the Chamber of Purifiers filed a question with the Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso, the first signatory being the secretary Elly Schlein – to ask for the protection of the Italian Bus Industry, «an industrial presence of great strategic value for the country”.

«It’s not clear, the Democratic deputies point out why the Government decided to authorize the public shareholder Invitalia to define the agreement which will lead to the entry of Seri Industrial into the capital of Industria Italiana Autobus. Interest in signing an agreement with a large Chinese group was also communicated, at a time when there is a great market opportunity in local public transport thanks to the investments of the Pnrr”.

The deputies of the Democratic Party ask that the Government listen to the proposals of the trade unions and of the Emilia Romagna and Campania Regions on industrial choices and concerns about the effectiveness and credibility of the decisions taken by the Ministry, “also linked to the actual skills in the sector of the identified buyer”. Secretary Schlein also met a delegation of company employees, with the secretary of Fiom CGIL Giuseppe Morsa, on the sidelines of his visit to Avellino in support of the mayoral candidate Antonio Gengaro.

«There’s a risk, he explained – the sale of a strategic company: the Ministry authorizes the sale to a private individual about which we have great doubts regarding the real desire to invest and guarantee the company’s employment continuity. The operation they are doing makes no sense: Italian companies are needed to make buses, especially electric ones. The Italian Bus Industry also represents an example of how the public can carry forward a true ecological conversion, guaranteeing investments in strategic supply chains to maintain Italian manufacturing at a high level, including competitiveness with other countries.”

For this reason, the secretariat of the Democratic Party has confirmed its desire to contest the Government’s decision: «selling this company means lose an important public asset and we will fight against this decision.” The declarations of Frosinone president Maurizio Stirpe which deny what was declared by undersecretary Fausta Bergamotto at the last ministerial meeting end up, in the meantime, causing further controversy.

«Stirpe’s words – highlights the secretary of Fiom CGIL Giuseppe Morsa – confirm that the Government has long since decided to direct the negotiations towards the Seri group. It is clear that no industrial and financial evaluation has been made. We ask for clarity and we will continue our fight. The Government should stop to encourage company recovery and the sale to an industrial partner who is capable of producing buses.” «The impression, adds Uilm secretary Gaetano Altieri, is of a Government that has always emphasized the proposal of the Seri group and belittled the offer of the GruppioniStirpe consortium. Instead, we would have hoped for sharing to encourage the real relaunch of the Italian Bus Industry. The Government is moving forward in an authoritarian manner and, at this point, must assume responsibility for the entire operation and offer adequate guarantees to avoid future risks.”
