The countdown has begun. Saturday will be the day of the Monza-Resegone, the historic and heroic race organized by the Società Alpinisti Monzesi which with this year’s edition (number 62) celebrates 100 years since the first edition. A sporting competition, but also a symbol of passion, resistance, team spirit. And solidarity. Even more so this year. Because to celebrate the milestone of the century, Sam has decided to treat herself to a special book – “Monza Resegone 100 years of racing, friendship and passion” – which tells the story and the emotions experienced along the race route through its values, photographs and anecdotes. The volume, created with the support of Gioielleria Colombo, will be delivered to all the classified teams at the awards ceremony on 28 June in Piazza dell’Arengario in Monza, the starting point of the competition. The book will however be purchasable with a minimum contribution of 10 euros: the proceeds will be used to support the research, treatment and assistance projects of the Maria Letizia Verga Committee against childhood leukemia.
One more reason, therefore, to follow the Monza-Resegone and the over 900 athletes who, in teams of three, in the ‘Classic’ mode or as a relay in the ‘Relay’ mode, will tackle the 42 kilometers from Monza to the Capanna Alpinisti Monzesi, the refuge that Sam had built in 1911 on the Resegone. The start of the first participants of the ‘Realy’ mode will be at 8pm and at 9pm it will be the turn of the athletes of the ‘Classic’ race to be called team by team to the platform which will kick off the centenary edition of the Monza Resegone in its historic version. “It will be an extraordinary event that celebrates one hundred years of history and passion for running – the pride of Enrico Dell’Orto (in the photo), president of the Monzesi Mountaineering Society –. Next Saturday will be an unforgettable night, a great moment of celebration and sharing between athletes and citizens”.
