Siena hosts the presentation of the new issue of the magazine ‘Via Francigena and the European Cultural Routes’. The event, open to the public, will be held today in Piazza Duomo and will be followed by the tasting of the wayfarer’s bruschetta and a guided tour of Santa Maria della Scala, home to the historic hostel for pilgrims. The 57th edition of the trilingual magazine includes a special focus on Siena, crossed by the Francigena itinerary as attested by the diary of Sigeric, the English archbishop who in 990 traveled the path between Rome and Canterbury in 79 stages, after receiving the Pallium from the hands of the Pope. Today the official itinerary crosses the city of Siena and its province for 120 kilometers: the route that connects Siena to Rome is one of the most frequented stretches by travelers from all over the world, who from the famous Piazza del Campo reach the Vatican in about 14 days, after 285 kilometers of pure beauty. The magazine hosts an editorial signed by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić and a speech by the Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè. This will be followed by a visit to the Santa Maria and the Casa delle Balie, now a hostel with 25 beds.
