In Avellino three days of Safe Driving for the Transmission Regiment (18, 19 and 20 June) in collaboration with the Automobile Club of Avellino, the ACI Ready2Go instructors and the State Police. This is the sixth project carried out by the Automobile Club of Italy which involves the Italian Army considering Turin, Cuneo, Cagliari, Sassari, Salerno with the Taurinense Brigade and the Garibaldi Logistics Regiment.

“The State Police Institution sincerely thanks the Automobile Club for allowing us to participate in this event, which is also a training course for our steering wheel service operators, present here today”, declares Renato Alfano, Director of the Administrative and Social Police Division (PAS). “It is in fact essential for us to refine driving skills, especially for those who may be called to intervene in emergency situations. They must be able to combine road safety with the need to reach a certain place in the shortest time possible, obviously in compliance with current regulations and the new potential of the operators themselves. the most dangerous driving behaviors, most harmful to road safety, are always the same and are recurring. Unfortunately, distractions while driving, primarily the improper use of mobile phones, are still frequent, despite much talk and action about them. prevention. Another fundamental aspect is impaired driving, therefore driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. As the State Police, we continue to carry out specific interventions to repress these behaviors, especially on Saturday evenings. also putting our doctor, the Traffic Police doctor, on the road, together with the police squad cars. Periodically, we carry out these specific checks to stem these phenomena.”

The aim is to train and raise awareness among Army personnel, and beyond, on the main issues of road safety and safety education. There are two daily training cycles for the project in Avellino: 2 hours of theory at the Berardi Barracks headquarters, viale Italia n. 54, 3 hours of test-drive at the square made available by the Municipality of Avellino, involving over 150 soldiers from the 232nd Transmission Regiment. During the theoretical part, the fundamental concepts of safe driving useful for preventing a road accident were addressed: starting from respect for speed limits, active and passive safety, up to the need to always maintain maximum concentration behind the wheel . The practical part, however, began by illustrating the correct driving position, and then tackled the dynamic slalom, the use of the Abs device and some exercises on surfaces with poor grip with obstacle avoidance.

“It is important that all drivers know how to correctly deal with the dangers they may encounter behind the wheel of their car – he declared Stefano Lombardi, president of the Automobile Club Avellino. Even more so our soldiers of the 232nd Transmission Regiment, pride of the Italian Army, who travel many kilometers while driving the service vehicles, also having to deal with adverse weather situations. Knowing how to react in the correct times and ways makes the difference when carrying out a mission, and it is crucial to know how to deal effectively with a dangerous situation to avoid being the victim of a road accident”. “These are extremely important lessons even when wearing civilian clothes – continued the president of the Avellino Automobile Club – since on the road respect for the rules, prevention and experience, in case of danger, can make the difference between life and death. But not only that, what is learned is passed on to their families and friends, thus amplifying the number of people who learn safe driving techniques”.

“Present and future mobility, then, must be based not only on respect for the environment, but, above all, on the adoption of correct behavior by everyone: motorists, motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians, but also those with so-called ‘light mobility ‘, (scooters and bicycles), increasingly used in the city – concluded President Lombardi. The latest data from our city reports in 2022: 49 accidents involving pedestrians with 3 deaths and 50 injuries; 13 bike accidents (including electric ones), with as many injured; Only 1 scooter accident resulting in 1 injury.”
