Coldiretti Calabria Mobilization Update, no more wild boars: the commitments of the agriculture councilor Gianluca Gallo

The attendance numbers were widely confirmed: around 300 tractors, four thousand people and a large representation of municipalities and provinces.

Farmers, administrators and managers of Coldiretti took turns at the stage. During his speech, the councilor for agriculture Gianluca Gallo, urged by the square, recognized that the wild boar problem is a major emergency, and committed to dismissing the extraordinary containment plan and starting its implementation in a few weeks.

The reductions made so far – said the councilor – have been insufficient, although growing. We need to have a smooth and structured relationship with veterinary healthcare. Swine fever outbreaks were instrumental in accelerating the region’s commitment.

The parks – he added – must carry out a selection action, if they do not do so we will proceed with the appointment of ad acta commissioners.

We must – continued Gallo – build a great social pact with hunters who must not take it lightly. A great effort is needed, there are authorized supply chains, and farmers must absolutely be involved.

Mayors can play their role and we will enable them to do so. The region must activate legislative tools, as it has already done, to enable everyone to intervene and will also finance the purchase of cages.

The President of Coldiretti Calabria Franco Aceto, despite feeling heartened by the councilor’s words, assured that Coldiretti will continue to follow the situation day by day.

We are clear about what needs to be done and our requests are precise: Immediate drafting of the extraordinary regional plan, sampling and culling all year round and in greater numbers, culling in protected areas, farmers taking on the role of bioregulators and hunting guards, activation of the CAR forestry provincial and municipal veterinary police and possible involvement of the army, abolition of the state aid regime and the de-minimis on compensation. strengthen the regional hunting office, simplify claims for compensation, reduce the settlement times for compensation for damages by ATC, parks and the Region”.

A collective demonstration that will certainly leave its mark on a problem that can no longer be postponed for both farmers and the inhabitants of urban areas.
