Over one hundred guests, six days of events, new locations and a new exhibition dedicated to works confiscated from the mafias: the thirteenth edition of the Festival of books on the mafias kicks off today

The thirteenth edition of Trame Festival kicks off today with a full program of events that will last until June 23rd.

The festival, which aims to raise public awareness on the issues of legality and the fight against mafias through culture, begins with an intense opening day. The official inauguration will take place at 6 pm at the monumental complex of San Domenico. Nuccio Iovene, President of the Trame Foundation, Giovanni Tizian, Director of the Trame.13 Festival, will welcome the participants: Lorenzo Canova and Pietro Folena of the Metamorfosi Association, Simona Bruni, Director of the Lametino Archaeological Museum, Wanda Ferro, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interni, Bruno Corda, Director of the Confiscated Assets Agency, Giuseppe Falcomatà, Mayor of Reggio Calabria, Paolo Mascaro, Mayor of Lamezia Terme, and Claudio Quaternato, Project Manager of the CDP Foundation. Ribbon cutting for the exhibition “Visioni Civiche. Art returned” at the Lametino Archaeological Museum. The exhibition, promoted by the Trame Foundation in collaboration with the MetaMorfosi Cultural Association and curated by Professor Lorenzo Canova, which displays works confiscated from the mafias and returned to the community until 28 July.

Also in the Monumental Complex of San Domenico, it will be possible to visit, for the entire duration of the festival, the photographic exhibition “The ‘Africo’ case” produced by Cortona On The Move in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo and Gallerie d’Italia, curated by Paolo Woods with the scientific supervision of Barbara Costa and the iconographic research of Serena Berno and Silvia Cerri.

At 7pm, the San Domenico Cloister will host the debate “The courage of every day”, with Michele Abbaticchio, Vice President of Notice Public, Giuseppe Politanò of Notice Public Calabria, and Giusy Caminiti, Mayor of Villa San Giovanni, moderated by Massimo Razzi of Quotidiano of the South.

While a new massacre of migrants, this time off the coast of Roccella Jonica, paints the Calabrian coasts with blood, the Trame stage will host the meeting “Humanity and hospitality in the era of cynicism” with Don Giacomo Panizza, Comunità Progetto Sud, Filippo Miraglia of Arci Nazionale, Enzo Infantino of Resq Calabria and Leonardo Palmisano. Federica Margaritora of Radio Inblu will moderate the meeting, during which the book “ItaliApartheid” by Leonardo Palmisano will be presented. The event is organized in collaboration with the Umanità In Ricerca Movement and other local associations. Subsequently, the intercultural theater “FILI” will present “Take and eat everyone” by Erri De Luca, curated by the Comunità Progetto Sud Association and InRete Cooperativa Sociale.

At 9pm, in the San Domenico Cloister, the magistrate Giuseppe Spadaro will discuss “Caivano, Italy: Between repression and prevention” with Giovanni Tizian, artistic director of Trame13.

The evening will end at 10pm in Piazzetta San Domenico with “Trame in musica”. Roberto Occhiuto, President of the Calabria Region, and Antonino De Masi, entrepreneur, will talk with the journalist Pietro Comito. This will be followed by a musical performance by Francesca Prestia together with the “G. Youth Wind Orchestra. Scerra” of Delianuova (RC) directed by Gaetano Pisano.
