by DIEGO DIOMEDI

TERNI – The press conference to present the ALVino – Art, Literature and Wine event which will be held at the Castello d’Alviano on Saturday was held on Monday 17 June at 11.00 in the Participation Room of the Regional Council of Umbria, Palazzo Cesaroni 22 and Sunday 23 June.

ALVino is a cultural project born from the conception and meeting of two Associations: Umbria Wine Club, which promotes the uniqueness and richness of Umbria through the wine production chain and the Bartolomeo d’Alviano Association, which aims to enhance the heritage historical, artistic, cultural and landscape of the Alviano area, a small jewel nestled in southern Umbria between Amerino and Orvieto. The project has as its specific objective “the promotion and organization of the event called ALVino – Art, Literature and Wine as well as all the activities connected to this event which will have the Municipality of Alviano as its permanent headquarters”.

The Promoter and Organizing Committee of ALVino is composed equally of members of the two Associations that gave life to the project through an agreement signed on 12.01.2024 and is chaired by Eng. Claudio Schiaroli (Bartolomeo d’Alviano Association) with the organizational coordination of Dr. Marco Sciarrini (Umbria Wine Club).
The project also features an important Scientific Committee which is currently made up of the following members: Prof. Silvana Cirillo, La Sapienza University of Rome – History of contemporary literature; Prof. Manuel Vaquero Piñeiro, prof. University of Perugia Prof. – Economic history;
Dr. Claudio Crescentini, art historian and critic, Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural Heritage of Rome; Dr. Andrea Fattizzo, President of Edizioni Ampelos (publishing house specializing in the literature and wine sector).

Present at the press conference was Professor Manuel Vaquero Piñeiro (University of Perugia) who underlined that: “For a territory like that of Alviano, events like this are very important. Depopulation must be combated. It is a challenge for the administration and for local associations: to restore an identity to these places. These places are not empty, they are full and Alviano Castle is an example.”
Professor Silvana Cirillo (La Sapienza University of Rome) also spoke, highlighting the importance of the triangle of art, literature and wine. «I believe that all this has never been combined in Umbria. Mario Soldati defined wine as the poetry of the earth. Poetry as art, poetry as literature and poetry as music” declares the Professor.

Marco Sciarrini of Umbria Wine Club, who led the press conference, would like to thank the organizing committee and the scientific committee for the work done. «On June 22nd and 23rd we will have the first episode of a long story. Many beautiful things and a great look towards the future starting from this year” states Sciarrini. Sauro Santi, former Mayor of Alviano, spoke for the Bartolomeo D’Alviano Association, specifying that: “The aim of the Association is to enhance the Castello d’Alviano and the territory; therefore, we thought of combining the castle, Bartolomeo and the wine”. He continues by stating the importance of the journey made together with Umbria Wine club.
The program of the event starts on Saturday 22 June at 5.30 pm at the Alviano Castle with the inauguration of the exhibition space: “Images from Wine” – Mimmo Rotella and Lina Passalacqua, two experiments compared”.
