A plea agreement and two summary sentences. This is the sentence pronounced by the preliminary hearing judge Domenica Gambardella against three nomads, all with specific precedents, defended by lawyers Danillo Taschin and Giorgio Zecchin. Samuel Colombo, 33 years old, resident in Albignasego, agreed with the Prosecutor’s Office on one year and two months of imprisonment for the crimes of fraud and money laundering. The accomplices Gesuel Hudorovic, 31 years old, from Polesella, and Sonia Stepich, 27 years old, resident in Padua, were sentenced respectively to eight and six months in prison for the first charge and acquitted of the crime of money laundering. The public prosecution had requested a sentence of one year and eight months for both.
THE STORY
The scam dates back to December 14, 2021. Colombo and Hudorovic hook up the young man from Este and make him believe that they are interested in purchasing his Yamaha MT09 model motorcycle. They make an appointment with him at a car processing agency and finalize the deal. They give him a thousand euros in cash and have the motorcycle registered in the name of Sonia Stepich. Then they let him believe that they would immediately go to withdraw the remaining amount (the agreed price was a total of 7800 euros) at the ATM of a nearby credit institution. They invite him to get out of the car where he was in the company of Hudorovic and Stepich and to get on the motorcycle together with Colombo who wanted to try it.
THE TRAP
That’s when the scam starts. The couple in the car and the accomplice on the motorbike suddenly drive away, leaving the poor seller stunned. The young Este does not give up. He knows that sooner or later the scammers will try to save money on the motorcycle. Online searches for him are rewarded. He spots the motorbike for sale on Subito.it. Thank you even though the chassis number and license plate have been replaced in the meantime.
Make an appointment with the sellers pretending to be interested in purchasing the vehicle. It’s April 19th two years ago. He sends his emissary to meet with Hudorovic, in Polesella, in the Rovigo area. The first contact with the nomad ends with a positive outcome. The latter shows up again a few minutes later riding the moped. It is at this point that the policemen from the Rovigo Flying Squad come out into the open. The moped is seized and taken away. Hudorovic’s two accomplices are also blocked not far away, inside a car. All under the watchful eye of the Striscia la Notizia cameras which film the entire operation. The trio of nomads ends up under investigation for fraud and money laundering. Yesterday the sentence with the two abbreviated sentences and the plea agreement.
