ALEXANDRIA – “I felt hurt.” As Grace Galasso, a citizen of Alessandria, she said first on social media and also to Radio Gold its difficulty in renewing the European badge intended for people with disabilities. There are two critical issues in particular: the “Permits Office” of the Local police has been transferred in a place according to the woman that is difficult to access for people with disabilities. “It wasn’t like this five years ago, when the access was in Via Borsalino and you could use the ramp. Now, however, the office has been moved. If you enter from via Lanza there are steps and even entering from via Borsalino you have to cross the entire courtyard with gravel (in the photos below you can see the path of the internal courtyard from via Borsalino up to goods lifted.). In the end they gave me all the information in the middle of the street, thank goodness it wasn’t raining. However, I want to point out the fact that, although it was not the day on which they receive citizens, a person in charge still listened to me and for this I thank him“.
“An issue that absolutely needs to be resolved because the office must be totally accessible“ the mayor of Alessandria underlined on Radio Gold Giorgio Abonante “I dealt with it personally yesterday morning. I spoke to the general secretary to ask the relevant managers to address the problem immediately. The office will soon be moved to a suitable location.”
The second critical issue reported concerns the documentation required for the renewal of the permit: “It was explained to me that I need certification from my GP to confirm the persistence of my disability” Mrs. Galasso underlined “I replied that my disability certificate, being an old certificate in any case, contains the pathology and that this is of a permanent nature and cannot be reduced through treatment. In short, that is and will be forever, as reported in the certificate issued by the ASL medical commission. The answer was that it is State Law that requires these documents: the Law is sovereign and must be respected.”
A procedure, it was confirmed by the Local Police Command, imposed by law. However, as the mayor of Alessandria reported, for a year, people with disabilities have at least been able to count on something new to protect them: “This administration it solved the problem of the delegation that until then the Municipality had not accepted for obtaining the permit. Now the delegation is accepted” concluded Abonante.
