Magenta (Milan). «Today on the balcony of the town hall there was a waving yellow-blue scarf…Thank you AC Magenta 1945″. The mayor of Magenta, Luca Del Gobbocelebrates the triumphant ride of the city’s football team towards the D series. “We are in Serie D…a dream come true…come on magical Magenta”, was the social comment of the mayor who followed the team to Veneto for the playoff final against Altavilla.
A race ended 2-2a result which, thanks to the 0-0 draw in the first leg, allowed Magenta to center the D series. A goal dreamed of for 63 years which now arrives when the renowned Legnano returns to Excellence. And the link with Legnano is there and is clearly evident. The diesse of Magenta, Maurizio Salese, was ex Legnano for some time. Some of Magenta’s most promising young players are from Legnano: Tondi, Basso, Bettini and Favilla.
Ex Legnano is also Federico Ortolani, former lilac footballer for 8 seasons, protagonist of the Magenta ride: “I can say first of all that in Magenta I found a real family, beautiful people who live with a passion for the club like no one else. I had a smile from start to finish day and winning like no one believed in us is even better! I won 4 playoffs, but this is undoubtedly the best, for the people and the love they showed me. We deserve it, but they deserve it more and more”. The bus with the Magenta players on board arrived in the city around 11pm. Hundreds of fans with scarves and smoke bombs were waiting for it, celebrating a historic milestone that the city had been waiting for for too long.
At the end of the 1960-61 season Magenta abandoned Serie D, relegating to the Lombardy First Category. A series of negative results culminated in relegation to the Second Category. Magenta managed to get back on top again, being admitted to the Lombardy Eccellenza in 1992-93, where they remained until relegation to Promotion in 1995, a consequence of the last place in the group. Since then a series of continuous participations between the Excellence and Promotion championships, up to the current great victory which opens the doors of the D series to the city, where it will meet other local realities such as the Club Milano di Pero, the Varese, the Castellanzese and the ‘Arconatese, but not Legnano. The fans’ hope is also to meet the fallen nobles such as Piacenza and Chievo Verona.
