Deep-rooted mafia presence in the capital and in the Lariano Triangle, an area full of small municipalities and greedy for the interests of organized crime. And finally the “southern complex”, to the south of the city, with the maximum concentration of the ‘Ndrangheta reference groups.
The new report “Mafia and economy in Lombardy”, presented today in Milan, shows a detailed territorial scan of the presence of organized crime in the province of Como. The document was developed by Cross, the observatory on organized crime of the University of Milan and by the CGIL and was signed by Nando Dalla Chiesa and Andrea Carnì.
A particular focus is dedicated to the Como area. An in-depth analysis that starts from the criminal classification. The 8 ‘ndrangheta clubs present are indicated on the map: Como, Appiano Gentile, Senna Comasco, Cermenate, Fino Mornasco, Erba, Canzo-Asso and Mariano Comense. 156 assets were confiscated. “Como, with Varese – we read in the report – stands out for the ability of the clans to take root and take advantage of the proximity to the border and the more “sheltered” position compared to Milan”
The area south of the capital is where the greatest infiltration emerges, with the presence of as many as five ‘Ndrangheta clubs. The report cites some of the investigations that have certified the presence of organized crime over the years and outlines four phases of the mafia’s rooting in the area. What emerges from the study is an acquisition phase, from the end of the 1990s to the first decade of the 2000s, with the maintenance of orders and intimidation when necessary. Moment followed by two years of tension, 2007 and 2008, characterized by damage and fires. From 2009 to 2018 there was the period of control, with an increase in orders and a so-called normalization of intimidating acts. Then a new phase of violence, until 2019, followed the breakdown of the balance. The document quotes an emblematic phrase from an alleged boss: “I’ve been here for thirty years and you think they have to work these mao mao? I have to work first and then if there’s anything left over they’ll work if I want.”
