Air Campania renews its bus fleet, a new investment in sustainable mobility

A significant step forward for regional mobility has been made thanks to the investments of the Campania Region. Anthony Acconcia, administrator of Air Campania, declared that this commitment has made it possible to guarantee citizens more efficient and quality services. The announcement was made during the presentation of the 100 new buses delivered to the regional transport company.

The event, which took place in Avellino, was attended by prominent figures such as the governor of Campania Vincenzo De Luca, the president of the regional transport commission Luca Cascone and the general director of Acamir Maria Teresa Di Mattia. 11 new vehicle models were presented, including the double-decker Ayats Horizon diesel-powered by Officine Di Maio, the 7-metre Iveco-based methane-powered Indcar MOBI and the 8-metre diesel-powered Vivacity by IIA.

“The new buses combine efficiency, safety, comfort, accessibility and sustainability”, said Acconcia, underlining that the vehicles are equipped with video surveillance systems, infomobility, passenger counting and digital systems for validating tickets. In the last three years, Acamir has delivered 379 new vehicles to Air Campania, as part of a plan to rejuvenate the company fleets wanted by the Region. This has made it possible to renew 50% of the vehicle fleet, which today numbers 774 vehicles, with an average age of 9.4 years, lower than the national average of 9.7 years (data from the Asstra study centre).

During the visit to the Avellino bus station, governor De Luca inaugurated the new offices of the Automobile Club of Italy and the Avellino Automobile Club, in the presence of the general secretary of Aci Gerardo Capozza and the president of the Avellino Automobile Club Stefano Lombardi . A memorandum of understanding was also signed between Air Campania and the Avellino local health authority, represented by the general director Mario Ferrante, for the transfer of the local pharmacy service to the premises in via Fariello.

The Airone shopping mall, located inside the bus station and currently home to management offices, catering businesses, bars, tobacconists, a parapharmacy and a Mondadori bookshop, will host a gym in the coming months. An agreement is also underway for the transfer of the offices of the Order of Accountants of Avellino.

The terminal handles 400 trips daily from its 24 stalls, including extra-regional routes which will be expanded shortly. After the resumption of connections with Campobasso, the Avellino-Caianello-Rome route will be activated, with runs from Monday to Saturday at 5.30am and 4pm, and on Sunday at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. Tickets will cost 17 euros from Avellino (32 euros return) and 10 euros from Caianello (18 euros return), with discounts for season tickets.

“The approval of the budget, with 840 thousand euros of profit, and the awarding of lots 2 and 3 of the European tender for the awarding of minimum public transport services in Avellino, Benevento and Caserta strengthen our position as a regional player in high-speed transport eraser”Acconcia said. “Now we must look to the future and continue working to maintain high quality standards and meet the mobility needs of the region.”

The next step, concluded Acconcia, is the digital transition. Work has begun on the installation of smart poles in Avellino and Caserta. “We are ready to also lead this change, which, thanks to Campania’s Intelligent Transport System project, strongly supported by President De Luca, will revolutionize mobility, allowing users to obtain real-time information on travel times and any delays.”
