The Eighth Edition of the Saxophonistic Summer Festival, which is held simultaneously with the International Music Festival, reveals the upcoming dates and programs. Four unmissable events that will pay homage to the saxophone, one of the most eclectic, fascinating and engaging instruments in the history of music.
The the first highly anticipated appointment is set for June 21st with the Music Festival in Varesein collaboration with the Municipality of Varese, with the Civico Liceo Musicale “Malipiero” and the support of numerous Sponsors and will be held at the Tensostructure of the Giardini Estensi in via Sacco, 5. An incomparable event which will see the participation of Maestro Mario Marzi , renowned performer and teacher of international fame, who will join the Sax Academy Orchestra which for this special occasion will be made up of over 50 saxophonists, both young and old, coming from different musical realities of the Varese area, the Milanese area and nearby Switzerland.
“The extraordinary participation as a soloist of Maestro Marzi” says Giuseppina Levato, musical director of the event, “It gives a special aura to the evenings of June 21st and 23rd, guaranteeing a unique and engaging musical experience for all those present. A special piece composed by Maestro Michele Fedrigotti for symphony orchestra and transcribed specifically for this formation, entitled “Fantasia Metropolitana”, will also be presented to the public.
Furthermore, the composer himself will be present together with Maestro Francesca Rivabene ready to play the piano part with us”. “This is the central event of the event,” Maestro Levato always says, “and the slogan of the International Music Festival 2024.
“We are the first orchestra” leads us to reflect on the importance of individual potential, but also suggests how important cooperation in harmony with others is, a concept that is not only valid in music, but also in everyday life”. Among the many songs that will be performed, Il Fantasma dell’Opera, Viaggio, Tank! and a tribute to De Andrè.
The 22 and 23 June, at the Civico Liceo Musicale “Malipiero” in via Garibaldi, 8, a Saxophone Masterclass will be held with Maestro Mario Marzi and Maestro Giuseppina Levato, a unique opportunity for all enthusiasts and aspiring saxophonists to perfect their skills. On June 23rd the concert of the 21st will be repeated in Viggiù, in the Park of Villa Borromeo, another opportunity to enjoy the extraordinary performance of the Sax Academy orchestra and the great talents it boasts this year, the Maestros Marzi, Fedrigotti and Rivabene.
Finally, the last event is scheduled for 5 July in Cuveglio with the Ensemble de Saxophones of Varese, which this year marks the twentieth anniversary of its foundation, which will propose the concert “Caleidoscópico Sax”, a musical journey among the many expressive possibilities of the saxophone. Among others, music by Shostakovich, Gershwin, Rossini, Silvestri, De Andrè will be performed…
