“But without services no payment is due”

LECCE – Hundreds of payment notices have been received from agricultural companies in two thirds of Puglia, including the province of Lecce. The Revenue Agency, on behalf of the former commissioner consortia, has started sending the payment bills relating to the 630 tax with a deadline of 60 days for any challenge or appeal.

But for the president of CIA, the Italian Farmers Confederation: “Those documents must be cancelled”. These, in fact, are the words of Gennaro Sicolo, president of Cai Puglia: “Recently, precisely regarding this situation and knowing that the folder bubble was about to burst again, we asked for an urgent meeting with the regional government in order to have answers certain and no longer dilatory on the age-old management issue relating to the former land reclamation consortiums Arneo, Ugento Li Foggi, Stornara and Tara, Terre d’Apulia now united in the Central-Southern Puglia Consortium”.

The regional representative of the trade association also refers to the absence of indications regarding the redetermination of the classification plans and the financial aspects to cover the investment plans aimed at guaranteeing the reconstruction of the consortium structures and the water supply system. “To date, no response has been received. To all this, which entails enormous damage for farmers, is added the mockery of the payment orders which have arrived like a sword of Damocles on farmers who, in the event of failure to pay within the deadline set by law, the amount due has always been contested for lack of services of the consortium structures, they will be harassed by administrative detentions and more. We therefore ask you to cancel those folders. We ask that politicians take on the commitment and responsibility to change the law and charge only those who actually use a service”, concluded Sicolo.
