Amato: solidarity with the SEUS – SCpA driver-rescuer attacked in Agrigento during a service

Agrigento, 06/15/2024, assault on a driver-rescuer during an emergency-urgency intervention of an ambulance of SEUS – SCpA, a consortium company of the Sicily Region that manages the vehicles and part of the staff of the Sicilian 118.

The rescuer ended up in hospital under code Red (Head Trauma and various injuries), a code that denotes a very high severity of the clinical conditions.

This is yet another episode of violence and aggression towards healthcare personnel and others who work within the emergency emergency system of the SSR and NHS (emergency room and 118). Although we appreciate the closeness expressed in the press by the SEUS Board of Directors and the Director of AG’s CO118, we believe that the time has come to implement an evening of programming aimed at preventing similar episodes.

“Words of solidarity are welcome, but something much more concrete is needed to protect the safety and health of healthcare personnel and drivers/rescuers who work in the Sicilian 118 vehicles; There could be many initiatives both of a regulatory nature (here national and regional politics should intervene) and of a practical nature aimed at preventing such episodes. Self-defense courses could be organized, or Seus personnel could be equipped with technical means of passive defense; another step could be to further train the CO staff in order to be able to understand in time the possible danger of an intervention and prepare the joint dispatch of the police forces together with those of 118″, these are the declarations of the Dr. Domenico Amato Regional Secretary Confimpresa Healthcare Sicily.
