Participatory art at the Bac – Taranto Good evening

The faces of the people to tell the streets of Taranto. The faces of the “City Competent” (competent citizens) and the maps of the Tamburi, Lama-San Vito, Tre Carrare Battisti and Borgo Umbertino neighborhoods become a participatory work of art. With “Beyond the map”, lpacs – Institutional & Public Coaching Servicesin collaboration with the Municipality of Taranto and the ASL Taranto, presents the artist’s journey Mimmo Martorelli as part of the Casa delle Tecnologie Emergenti Calliope project: thus citizens, through this participatory initiative, become part of the One Health project.

An invitation addressed to people from Taranto, and beyond. The first phase consists of dialogue and discussion on issues of environment and health, the second in the creation of contemporary art installations that will be created by the participants in collaboration with the artist. To sign up for the free Competent Citizen path, just click on www.competenceconomy.it/diventa-city-competent-asl-taranto and the person becomes a work of art, in a path suitable for recreating that relationship between the individual and his city.

Another invitation, again to citizens, is to make short video selfies describing their vision, a memory, an experience linked to the streets and neighborhoods involved. This material, to be sent via WhatsApp to the number 3349983390 or via email to [email protected], will be selected and inserted, via QR Code, within the works of visual art.

On June 17th (from 3pm to 6pm) and 19th (from 10am to 1pm and from 3pm to 6pm), the participatory art process will be implemented inside the BAC (formerly Baraccamenti Cattolica). for an evolutionary-experiential path based on dialogue and comparison, in which the IPACS team will guide the selected people to discuss their role in the territory they belong to, through the construction of the story of a road in the territory they belong to. This process will lead the participants and the artist to the creation of contemporary art installations which will subsequently be exhibited during a major event in the BAC (former Baraccamenti Cattolica).

The City Competent project of Ipacs, with “Beyond the map”, by cultivating the skills of citizens, contributes to creating catalysts of change, which, together with the Local Health Authority of Taranto and the Council of Associations, work on the objectives of the new local medicine becoming one innovative and measured tool.

«The process of change of a city – says the mayor of Taranto, Rinaldo Melucci – also manifests itself through initiatives that require the active participation of the community. And the proof is precisely this ambitious project which, involving the creation of six works of visual art, all of which will then be exhibited in the BAC, a symbolic place of innovation, will tell not only the beauty of our streets, but also the stories and faces of Tarantini.”

«It is important for institutions to create a new relationship with citizens – he declares Rodolfo Sardone, scientific director of Calliope – we seek connections with the territory, from an interdisciplinary perspective, to evaluate and implement the One Health approach everywhere”.

L’artist Mimmo Martorelli comments: «Today it is essential to adopt a simple language shared with all institutions based on dialogue and discussion and capable of reaching the citizen, as a common good. Here, in this context, relational and participatory art becomes a new form of communication suitable for the citizen.” There president of Ipacs, Francesca Cioffi, underlines that «the initiative has artistic, social and educational purposes, since our objective is to train aware, prepared and proactive citizens in the best possible way on objectives of collective interest. And the synergy with the Municipality and the ASL Taranto, in their being well rooted in the territory, represents the common thread”.
