Only 9 people. Many presented themselves this morning under the Civil Protection stand set up on the Pozzuoli seafront on the occasion of the second of two days of seismic risk simulations to offer the communities of the Campi Flegrei and an area of Naples the tools and information useful in case of evacuation. After what already happened yesterday, we didn’t have any big illusions. But the circumstance caused a sharp reaction from the mayor of the centre, Luigi Manzoni. “I want to say to citizens that I understand their concerns, but we are working as never before on the bradyseism phenomenon, and we must give citizens security by carrying out the activities we are implementing”, he commented.
200 people were registered
In Pozzuoli, around 200 reservations had been registered but, as mentioned, this morning only four showed up at the meeting point indicated on the seafront. These people were then joined by five other people from Puteola who had not booked but who still showed up and were admitted to the exercises. Behind them another eloquent postcard: hundreds of people bathing in the city sea.
«Understand the reasons for low participation»
«Everything that needed to be done – underlined Manzoni – we are doing without wasting time. I don’t feel like condemning anyone who didn’t come, I just want to understand with data in hand and work on the critical issues because here we are looking for a solution to any problem. I also reflect on the fact that we are carrying out exercises and at the same time we are experiencing a state of emergency in Pozzuoli, so this could be one of the causes.” The mayor of Pozzuoli concluded as follows: «The communication to the citizens about this simulation has been made, now I think that we need to actually understand the reasons for this low participation».
