Preserving and conserving the artistic heritage of parishes is a cultural duty, a precious legacy for future generations and an asset to be shared and made known. This is the case of the church of St. John the Baptist Decollatyou hate Pieve Terzagni, a hamlet of Pescarolo ed Uniti, which will finally return to its original splendor. During the summer, in fact, a series of restoration interventions will begin which will give the parish complex a second life, which has long been put at serious risk due to structural failures in the apse of the church.

Precisely to illustrate to the parishioners the works that will affect the church on the evening of Friday 14 June, an official presentation of the intervention was organized in the town church.

The architect followed the design process of the works Sara Delledonne and the engineer Fabio Corradistarting from the geological analysis of the terrain with a diagnostic investigation on the walls up to a study on the stratification of the interventions that have affected the church building from its foundation until today.

«The project is divided into six distinct interventions on different parts of the parish complex – explains engineer Delledonne – I works will begin with the demolition of the parish hall, which will help to intervene on the side of the church and on the bell tower. He will then be involved in the restoration work of the apse basin, the churchyard and the bell tower.”

During the presentation he spoke Gian Emilio Balzariniwho with emotion wanted to share his gratitude for the Arvedi Buschini Foundation, who supported the restoration in memory of his son, Marco Balzarini28-year-old warehouse worker, originally from Pieve Terzagni, who died at work on 19 April 2019. «An exceptional job was done – he said – and I believe that Marco will also smile when he sees this memory operation being carried out, a work done for the whole community.”

The church of San Giovanni Battista Decollato is one of the most important historical sites of the diocese. There is talk of a foundation in the late Romanesque period, dating back to between 1100 and 1200, which has some mosaics in the floor of the presbytery coeval with those of our Cathedral. An artistic and historical asset that deserves to be protected and preserved.
