Turin-Ceres line: section closed from 17 to 23 June 2024

In the period between 17 and 23 June 2024, the Turin-Ceres railway line will undergo significant changes to the circulation of trains due to planned infrastructure upgrades. A collaboration between Italian Railway Network (RFI), the Piedmont Region and local territorial bodies, aims to raise national standards and reclassify the entire line to the maximum possible axial mass, as well as expanding the limiting gauge.

Project Objectives

The main objectives of the infrastructural and technological upgrading program on the Turin-Ceres line are:

  • Improve the performance and efficiency of the railway service
  • Increase the transport capacity of goods and passengers
  • Adapt infrastructure to the latest safety regulations
  • Reduce the environmental impact of rail operations

Works between Venaria Reale and Germagnano

Although the upgrading project concerns the entire Turin-Ceres line, from 17 to 23 June 2024 the activities will mainly focus on the stretch between Venaria Reale and Germagnano. This time interval was strategically chosen to allow the creation of the new Master Plan of the Turin Caselle Airport station.

Significant Investment

RFI has allocated an investment of 2 million euros for this specific intervention, which represents a fundamental step for the activation of platforms 3 and 4 of the Turin Airport station. The planned works require the temporary interruption of scheduled railway circulation, making it necessary to reprogram the service.

Changes to Train Movement

During the construction period, from 17 to 23 June 2024, substantial changes will be made to the circulation of trains on the Turin-Ceres line. Here are the details:

SFM4 and SFM7 lines

  • Trains on the SFM4 line (Alba-Turin-Airport-Ciriè) and the SFM7 line (Fossano-Turin-Airport-Ciriè) will only run up to Venaria Reale Reggia.

SFMA line

  • Trains on the SFMA line (Ciriè-Germagnano) will be temporarily suspended.

Replacement Bus Service

To guarantee continuity of service, a replacement bus service will be activated which will connect Venaria Reale Reggia to Germagnano, with intermediate stops in all stations on the route affected by the works.

Possible Changes in Hours

Due to the changes made to the circulation of trains and the replacement bus service, there may be variations in timetables compared to the normal schedule. Furthermore, travel times may increase due to road traffic.

Travelers are therefore advised to carefully evaluate the replanning of their trip and consult the updated information on the official Trenitalia channels.

Restrictions on the transport of bikes and animals

During the works period, the transport of bicycles will not be permitted on the replacement buses. Furthermore, access to buses will be prohibited to animals, with the exception of guide dogs for the blind.

Information and Assistance Channels

Trenitalia has updated its purchasing channels with the new traffic program, taking into account the changes made. Further detailed information is available on the following channels:

  • Trenitalia website (www.trenitalia.com), “Infomobility” section and “Works and changes to the service” page
  • Trenitalia App, via the Smart Caring service
  • Free call center 800 89 20 21

Travelers are invited to regularly consult these channels to stay updated on any changes and the latest news regarding the works on the Turin-Ceres line.

Future perspectives

This intervention on the Turin-Ceres line represents only one stage of a broader program of infrastructural and technological enhancement of the Piedmontese railway networks. In the coming years, further investments and works aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of rail transport are expected across the region.
