[LUCCA] POWER TO THE PEOPLE: THE MAJORITY COUNCILORS STILL SILENCE THE CITY

Our city is once again in the news due to the sad statements of the majority councillors. Instead of thinking about the good of the city, they don’t miss the opportunity to say stupid things, often called out by their colleagues in the City Council.

Councilor Laura Da Prato of Fratelli d’Italia has in fact asked for a minute of silence for the election of Ilaria Salis, provoking the indignation of practically everyone.

As Power to the People we were immediately close to Ilaria Salis. Our national coordinator Francesca Trasatti, in fact, is the lawyer who is following the trial of the new MEP and we can only claim the vote indication we gave for her in order to free her from the terrible situation she finds herself in Hungary.

We know well that AVS’s choice to nominate her was made instrumentally, otherwise she would have been supported everywhere, as we had proposed, and not just in two constituencies.

The tens of thousands of preferences that Ilaria Salis brought to AVS, together with Mimmo Lucano, are votes of opinion and admiration for these two personalities. These are the reason for the success of the list in the European elections. The statements of the majority councilors of Lucca demonstrate once again the contempt they have for the institutions. Salis’s election opens up an important political space to build a serious and concrete opposition, which talks about the right to housing, guaranteed, well-paid and safe jobs, access to social rights and environmental justice. All issues that the majority of this city, like the national government, continues to ignore: an example above all is the alarm raised regarding the housing emergency a few days ago.

The 51% abstention rate and the loss of support for the government forces tell us this. So, soon, you will find us back on the streets supporting the fight for the minimum wage and safe jobs.
