Renewable energy communities, a growing phenomenon in Tuscia

Renewable energy communities, a growing phenomenon in Tuscia. Among the latest creations is that of Nepi, which is located inside the social center for the elderly.

Renewable energy communities

We are talking about renewable energy communities, that is, associations between citizens, commercial activities, local public administrations and small and medium-sized businesses that decide to join forces with the aim of producing, exchanging and consuming energy from renewable sources on a local scale. A possibility foreseen by the European Red directive, which in Italy was implemented with the conversion into law of the Milleproroghe decree 162/2109.

A growing phenomenon in Tuscia

There are already several in Tuscia: the first arose on 15 October 2021 in the heart of the ceramic industrial district and is called Civita Castellana solar. Cerkata, on the other hand, operates in Vetralla, an energy community founded by Italia Rinnovabile, a cooperative startup associated with Legacoop Lazio, which aims to promote the birth in our region, but also in neighboring ones, of many other twin experiences.

“Renewable energy communities – explain the promoters – do not only aim to satisfy energy needs, but also encourage the birth of new socioeconomic models characterized by circularity”.

Vita: “Energy communities are experiencing gradual interest among citizens and companies”

“In Nepi, the energy communities are registering a gradual interest among citizens and companies – explains the mayor Franco Vita -. There are various possibilities for a municipal initiative to set up an energy community with the contribution of private individuals. One of the possibilities that we see as feasible concerns the installation of solar systems on the roofs or terraces of commercial activities located in the expansion area of our municipality. In this way, no land would be taken away from agriculture and there would be significant economic as well as environmental advantages.”
