As part of the “Messina, city of Antonello” project, promoted by the Municipality of Messina – Department of Cultural Policies, in collaboration with the Antonello da Messina association, on Wednesday 19 June, at 7 pm, in Santa Maria Alemanna, the event curated by the “A. Corelli”, which includes dance pieces, sung pieces and instrumental performances.

The particular event, which will be attended by the mayor Federico Basile, the councilor for cultural policies Enzo Caruso, the president and director of the A. Corelli Conservatory Egidio Bernava and Carmelo Crisafulli, will be introduced by Milena Romeo, president of the Antonello association from Messina.

The study of movements and choreographies is based on the careful reading of period treatises and offers Conservatory students and external students the possibility of retracing and acquiring the art of dance practiced both in aristocratic and popular environments, from the 15th to the 16th century.

The “dances”, which occupy an important part in the musical literature studied in the Conservatory, in the laboratory created by Professor Ata Virzì, become a bodily experience for the students and their study enriches their scholastic path.

The Renaissance and Baroque singing classes of Prof. Cristiana Arcari, the scenic art of Prof. Floriana Sicari and the harpsichord classes of Prof. collaborated on the course. Mario Tonda and flute by prof. Laura Paone; to this is added the external collaboration of the harpist, Professor Simona Palazzolo.

Many of the examples that will be proposed next Wednesday, in Santa Maria Alemanna, have their roots in the centuries preceding their publication. The presence of the Ciaccona del Paradiso e dell’Inferno (song for three voices), by Anonymous, should be highlighted in the programme; the Concerto for flutes n. 3 by JB de Boismortier; I know well that O. Vecchi has a good time; Il Ballo dell’Intorcia (song for four voices) by A. Valente; Who ever thinks or hopes of love by J. Dowland; and other sought-after pages from the 15th and 16th centuries.
