Water and hydrocarbon leaks, the remediation service of the Provincial Center for Adult Education in Via Varsavia has been entrusted
A determination, number 1203 of last 11 June 2024, committed the expenditure for the reclamation works to the former school complex in Via Varsavia/Via Bonn, once also home to the Productive Activities offices of the Municipality of Latina and, subsequently, Centro Provincial Authority for Adult Education.
The reclamation of the site was entrusted to the company Maremmana srl for a total cost of just over 103,000 euros. It’s from last February the ordinance of the Mayor of Latina, Matilde Celentanowhich had ordered the closure of the Provincial Center for Adult Education of the Ministry of Education, so as to carry out further technical checks and interventions aimed at restoring the overall level of safety of the building structure in Via Varsavia.
The closure was made necessary due to a report received on February 2nd in which a large water leak in the basement rooms hosting the thermal power plant and in the technical room housing the water meters had been ascertained through an inspection by technicians and workers. .
Following several further inspections, also in the presence of geologists, technicians, maintenance workers and a specialized environmental company, the presence of traces of hydrocarbons in the ground was also detected, leaking from an underground tank that had been decommissioned for several years adjacent to the aforementioned basement rooms.
Despite numerous interventions by the technicians, the water leak had not been traced and, therefore, to continue with the research, as well as to limit the possible dispersion of traces of hydrocarbons, the Piazza del Popolo body had deemed it necessary to close the supply of drinking water that supplies the toilets of the CPIA school
Instead, in relation to the traces of hydrocarbons detected, the Municipality had deemed it necessary to implement the operational and administrative procedures for making the site safe, as a matter of urgency.
