It concludes with a reflection on Giuseppe Garibaldi’s Expedition of the Thousand which, with the conquest of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, made a fundamental contribution to the Unity of Italy, that Unity which many people are trying to undermine in the name of a claimed autonomy, the series of meetings that the Association Anassilaos and the Library they promoted in the months of May and June in the Giuffrè Hall of the Villetta De Nava which the statesman Giuseppe De Nava wanted to donate to the City of Reggio Calabria so that it could become a Library. It is therefore no coincidence that “The Expedition of the Thousand. Revolution, war and nation in Reggio, Calabria and the South” will be the theme of the meeting promoted jointly by the Anassilaos Cultural Association and the Pietro de Nava Library which will be held on Thursday 27 June at 5.00 pm in the Giuffrè room of the same Library.

The event is sponsored by the Municipality of Reggio Calabria, the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Salerno, the Deputation of National History for Calabria, the Institute for the History of the Italian Risorgimento, and AIParc. The meeting, conducted and moderated by Stefano Iorfida, President of the Anassilaos Association, will be attended by Dr. Fabio Arichetta, Deputy for National History for Calabria and Head of the Anassilaos “R. Romeo” Study Center, and Prof. Carmine Pinto, Full Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Salerno and Director of the Department of Humanistic Studies at the University of Salerno.

Dr. Daniela Neri, Head of the De Nava Library, will bring greetings to the event; Prof. Giuseppe Caridi, President of the Deputation of Homeland History for Calabria and for the Institute for the History of the Italian Risorgimento, the Presidents of the Provincial Committees of Reggio Calabria: Dr. Vincenzo De Angelis; of Messina: Prof. Salvatore Bottari; of Cosenza: Prof. Giuseppe Ferraro; from Catanzaro: Prof. Rosella Folino Gallo; from Crotone: Dr. Christian Palmieri; of Vibo Valentia: Prof. Nicola D’Agostino and, finally, Dr. Salvatore Timpano, National President of AIParC. The public present will also be able to admire a small exhibition of prints and documents from Giuseppe Diaco’s collection.
