“A city in which: an ATM located on the Corso, the main road in the heart of the urban centre, exactly in front of the Municipality of Bitonto, was attacked; shots are fired in the city center and at peak times on more than one occasion on the same day (only a few months ago, but also several times in the past); a public official finds a threatening letter containing a bullet on the desk of Palazzo di Città (last autumn, but it has also happened in the past); anyone who decides to celebrate his birthday at midnight with fireworks in the main square, freely using explosive material in ways prohibited by law; souped-up electric bicycles go crazy on sidewalks, squares and pedestrian spaces, putting the safety of citizens at risk and not even allowing them to walk freely; farmers are victims of theft of agricultural products, theft of equipment and vehicles for cultivating the fields, suffering criminal acts in various areas of the countryside, and a commercial business is forced to close its doors in the ancient village due to the presence of criminal activities. city out of control!
Bitonto, with its hamlets Palombaio and Mariotto, needs strong, long-lasting and determined interventions. The work of the police forces in our territory is absolutely commendable, but to tackle crime in our city we need a more conspicuous, constant and definitive presence of men and vehicles with a serious increase in the number of personnel on duty. We are grateful to our security operators for the precious work carried out in the city and we support it with great conviction.
Our safety proposals
We reiterate our proposals, inviting those with city government responsibilities to share them and address them to the competent authorities following the institutional procedures.
It is urgent to implement a structural strengthening of the police forces through the transformation of the current State Police Commissariat from second to first level and the establishment of the Carabinieri Tenenza in place of the current Station.
It is necessary to increase social anti-mafia initiatives, carried out excellently by institutional and associative entities, which, in synergy with the world of schools and parishes, can carry out a fundamental recovery and prevention activity dedicated to younger people.
Politics requires facts, strength and determination, only in this way can we ensure greater control over the territory. You have to believe it. We are ready to do our part, we must all lower the flags of factionalism and raise that of
City of Bitonto, in which we all recognize ourselves and which we all love. We must go further, overcoming every division, and work in the supreme interest of our territory and for the common good.
Only in this way can we defeat criminal activity and guarantee greater safety for our community and serenity for our citizens.
Anyone who continues to belittle criminal phenomena, to make sterile comparisons with other territories, to find futile justifications at all costs, to adopt buck-passing attitudes, to still push the dust under the carpet, is and will be responsible for the decline of the city, without ‘ifs’ and without ‘but’.”
