“Bike thefts don’t stop.” This is the title of the letter of complaint that Damiano Cabassi – a disabled graduate in Communication Sciences – sent us to report the theft.
“After returning from Cadelbosco Sopra to witness the result of the elections in my town, I returned last Monday to the ‘Settimo cielo’ apartment in the Municipality of Reggio in via Brigata Reggio and I discovered that my bike was no longer there – says the young man –. I live in this apartment with three other disabled people with the aim of achieving some independence in the kitchen and finding a job opportunity. In Reggio Emilia I only get around with a blue ‘Atala’ tricycle, because, my disability does not allow me to get a driving license. The main goal of my life has always been to be autonomous in everything”.
And he adds: “Living for so long in the countryside, a strong feeling towards ecology has entered into me, which I am making known through the verses of my poetry collection. I write poems about ecology and I have managed to design a sensorial path in my company. My family and scouting have always helped me seek this autonomy since I was little.”
This long search for autonomy and “the visits conducted by my physiatrist Adriano Ferrari deduced that the use of the bicycle was good for my physical stability – continues Cabassi -. Since then I have always started cycling on country roads, cycle paths and even carriage roads. Before the elections I parked my tricycle under the stairs of the ‘Settimo cielo’ apartment and last Tuesday, my vehicle, I never found it again. I immediately realized that I had been the victim of a theft. Only last Friday I managed to report of this fact to the Carabinieri of Reggio. I hope to know the criminals and the reason for this ignoble act”.
