ROVIGO – Now it’s official. As we announced a few weeks ago, the foreign player of the Solmec Rhodigium 2024-2025 is the Bulgarian guard Katrin Kirilova Stoichkova; Stoichkova will be 25 years old on November 14th and will join the rossoblù after three seasons spent in Empoli between A1 and A2.
At Solmec Rhodigium, Katrin brings a wealth of experience in the Italian championship. Basketball-wise Katrin grew up in the ranks of Bc Levski Sofia, and at the age of 14 he landed in Italy, in the ranks of Pallacanestro Ants Viterbo, where he played in the youth championships and slowly began to appear in the first team. In 2016/17, again with Lazio, he finished his first Serie A2 tournament.
In the summer of 2017 he received the call from Cestistica Spezzina and then joined Selargius again in Serie A2 where he remained for two seasons. Then the return to Viterbo and then wearing the shirt of Alma Basket 2012 Patti to follow the Cestistica Spezzina and the last seasons with Use Rosa Scotti Empoli where he contributed to making the fortunes of the Tuscan team and in the last championship he scored scored 283 points (59 2-pointers, 35 triples and 6 free throws); furthermore he grabbed 107 rebounds (88 defensive and 19 offensive), recovering 52 balls and making 41 assists.
This is how coach Giulia Pegoraro introduces the new signing: “Katrin Stoichkova is a player who can play different roles on the pitch. She is a great scorer, but at the same time I was impressed by her ability to pass the ball and create shots for her teammates, as well as her defensive intensity. I believe she is perfect for my gaming system and she will do good for the whole group with her great competitiveness. This is a great market coup, which demonstrates how Rhodigium Basket is considered a healthy and ambitious club for which girls want to come and play.”
These, however, are Katrin Stoichkova’s first words in rossoblù: “I am excited and very happy for this new chapter in my career. I chose Rovigo because I heard great things about it both regarding the company and the group. Furthermore, I know some members of the coaching staff and I definitely felt in line with their idea of basketball. From this new adventure I expect a lot of fun and growth together with the team. I will bring my energy, professionalism and desire to do well to Rovigo. I like bonding with the group and keeping the energy in the locker room high.”
