Basketball in Tuscany, a growing movement. More women’s teams
Basketball in Tuscany, increase in teams registered in regional championships, growth of the women’s movement and a stage that saw three of the seven national finals of the youth championships played in the area.
It is the budget of Tuscany Regional Committee Fippresident Massimo Faraoni.
The numbers certify the quality of the work carried out, underlines the Tuscany Committee. Tuscan basketball has made an impact this season 712 teams registered to the championships (best result of the last seven years), against the 677 of the previous sports season and 9329 races managed (119 more than in 2022/2023) of which 6539 youth (167 more than the previous season).
Also growing women’s movementwhich this year recorded a increase of 9.43% of the teams (116 against 106 last season) and of 21.84% compared to 2021/2022 (87 teams).
Pharaohs: “As a Committee we have set ourselves the objective of bringing the numbers of registrations of women’s teams closer to those of men’s teams. We have also developed ‘Progetto Azzurri’ in all the provinces, with the intervention of the regional technical staff in the men’s and women’s sectors and participation in tournaments such as the Carloni and Sabatini, as well as events such as the Ludec Cup, the Fabbri Memorial, or events outside the region such as the Street Basket Tournament in Porretta Terme, or the Città dei Papi Tournament in Anagni. These are events that bring boys and girls closer to the sport of basketball and contribute to the technical and personal growth of the athletes.”
The growth of the movement is accompanied by the prestige of the national competitions, highlights Fip, with Tuscany which this year hosted three of the seven national youth finals Fip, and saw the participation of 9 regional teams in the seven competitions: Estra Pistoia Basket 2000 And Florence Basketball Academy for the Under 19 Excellence, Pall. Prato 2000 for the Under 17 Excellence, Lotar Shutters Polisportiva Sancat And Sesa Biancorosso Empoli for the Under 15 Excellence, Florence Basketball Academy for the Under 17 Women, Basketball Reggello Atlanta Hawks for the Under 13 Men’s, and Invictus Livorno Sacramento Kings for the Under 13 Girls.
Three of these competitions took place in Tuscany (Under 19 Eccellenza in Chiusi/Chianciano Terme, Under 15 Female in San Vincenzo, Under 19 Gold in Cecina), for a total of almost 500 kids involved and 40 teams from all over Italy.
The 2023/2024 sports season then closed with the awarding of the regional youth titles. These are the teams that won their respective competitions.

Finally, the minibasketballwith the four closing parties of the year sports in Follonica, Florence-Bagno a Ripoli, Donoratico and Pisa. The Follonica party, hosted by the ASD Follonica Basket company, saw the participation of almost 300 girls and boys belonging to the Eaglets/Gazelles, Squirrels/Dragonflies and Chicks/Ducks categories, i.e. age groups between 5 and 11 years, who took to the field for 3vs3 matches. In Florence and Bagno a Ripoli the event was hosted by the Firenze 2 Basket company, and involved over 100 young athletes, while in Donoratico the organization was handled by the Donoratico Basket company, with 200 young people participating. Finally, in Pisa, under the organization of the Italian Minibasket Pisa Basketball Federation, over 200 boys and girls from 10 local clubs met.
A series of events, as Fip points out, aimed at promoting sporting activity to the widest possible audience, starting with the littlest ones.
