The program of the celebrations in honor of San Calogero has been made official. The dates of the processions are July 7 and 14. A rich program created with the supervision of Don Gerlando Montana Lampo, rector of the Sanctuary of San Calogero. The celebration of the most beloved Saint by the people of Agrigento will begin on Friday, July 5, with the 18th edition of the “U Venniri a Villa” of the Associazione Portatori di San Calogero. The tasting and distribution of typical local dairy products and Sicilian cannoli are planned, while at 9 pm a musical show will begin with the presence of Tammura di Girgenti, the orchestra of Sicilian masters, Tom Sinatra, the folk group Città di Agrigento and the Band At.

“U Venniri a Villa”, will have a sequel on Friday 12th with the walk of the Children of San Calogero from Piazza Municipio to the Sanctuary and the exhibition of historic Vespas and decked-out motoapi. All the various moments of the festival are confirmed. The most evocative are the exits of the Saint from the Sanctuary. On the first Sunday, July 7th, with the exit at midday, the procession will wind through the historic center, arriving at Porta dell’Addolorata. First at 10:30 in the Sanctuary the Holy Mass presided over by Monsignor Alessandro Damiano, Archbishop of Agrigento.

The photographic exhibition on the San Calogero procession curated by the Confraternity will be inaugurated on Monday 8th at 8.30pm, while on Wednesday 10th the blessing of children and expectant mothers will be held. From 8.30pm on Thursday the “San Calogero embraces the Valley” event organized by the “I Tammura di Girgenti” Association at the new Giunone theater.

On the final Sunday, 14 July, in the early morning the traditional wheat festival, with the offertory procession in which the bearers and the faithful take part with the votive offerings, the products of the land and handicrafts, followed by the procession with the Tammurinara, the band musical, Sicilian carts and other animals. The exit from the Sanctuary is scheduled for 1pm and the simulacrum will travel along the entire Via Atenea. The two evening processions on 7 and 14 July, new this year, will start at 10pm, concluding the fireworks.
