Livorno Even a walk with your beloved dogs can be an opportunity to create the basis for caring for beauty, preserving biodiversity, fighting against vandalism, underlining your love for the places in your life but also for telling a story. All this is conveyed to us during the inauguration of the mural that the president of the Rotary Club of Livorno, Vanessa Turinelli, displayed to the public on the external facades of the Aquarium, on the sea-north side: «These are initiatives that, as the Rotary Club, we willingly develop . Just as happened with the mural in Viale Sauro which recalls the faces of the most famous characters in Livorno’s recent history, even if there was less bureaucracy there. For the aquarium we did something important, we wanted to leave our mark for what we love, and we do it thanks to the Trossi Uberti Foundation, to the mayor Salvetti, who wanted to photograph the work first, to the councilor Simone Lenzi who believed very much in the initiative, to the Costa group which manages the aquarium. Nothing was imposed on maestro Yonel Hidalgo, it was enough for me that from the ugliness of an obscene writing that didn’t even respect the syntax, something beautiful could be made that could give a signal linked to the place where we find ourselves, and Hidalgo fully succeeded.”

«The Rotary Club wanted to send two messages in this way – continues Turinelli – the first is that writing on the walls does not mean having the right to deface a landscape heritage that belongs to everyone. The second is that, as per tradition, Rotary is at the service of citizens. Now our hope is that the mural lasts a long time, and that no one dares to touch it, not even the southwest.”

The work, which depicts cetaceans and sea birds and is approximately 20 meters long and is made of a special material that reflects sunlight in a particular way, cost the almost century-old Livorno Rotary section seven thousand euros. After the inauguration of President Turinelli there were greetings from the outgoing councilor for culture Simone Lenzi, from the president of the Trossi Uberti Foundation Libera Capezzone, who thanked the students of her art school Giovanni Graziani, Antonella Lucchini and Franco Mongatti for having collaborated with maestro Hidalgo.
