Celebration in Bastia Umbra for the centre-left where, against all odds, Erigo Pecci took the tricolor sash from the outgoing centre-right mayor and candidate for re-election, Paola Lungarotti. The final outcome is Pecci mayor with 4,837 votes (51.2 percent), while Lungarotti stopped at 4,612 votes (48.8 percent).

Bastia Umbra, Pecci wins The turnaround made by Pecci is even more sensational in light of the support that Lungarotti, albeit not with the alliance formula, received last Monday from Catia Degli Esposti, the centre-right civic candidate who had received 17 percent in the first round . “The programmatic agreement” apparently represented a turning point for the fate of the run-off between Pecci and Lungarotti, but evidently Degli Esposti’s move was not digested by the base.

The words of the new mayor “The first objective is to be among the people, to ensure that a social structure is recreated for Bastia, because the city needs to feel alive and involved in the administrative action”, said the new mayor Pecci, who then added : “It’s everyone’s victory, not mine, and we must govern together.” This is a concept that Pecci reiterated later speaking to the crowd: «It must be clear that this is a victory for us, us and us again, because without it we wouldn’t have gone anywhere and therefore you are all involved in administrative action . In addition to us who are here this evening, there is the whole city with whom we have tried to talk continuously and who now must be involved.” And again: «In recent days I was thinking of a sentence that would tell what has happened in recent months, of the work done together: they probably saw us arriving, but they didn’t manage to arrive».

Bastia city council Then the composition of the new city council. The majority in Bastia Umbra will be Pd-backed and will sit in the chamber with Ramona Furiani, Alessandro Barbanera, Luisa Fatigoni and Luigi Ciuchicchi. Joining them will be the three from the civic Uniti per Bastia, namely Stefano Lombardi, Claudio Boccali and Elisa Zocchetti. One councilor each for M5s, which enters with Marcello Rosignoli, Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra, which elected Pablo Trombolesi, and Progetto Bastia, which flies its flag with Paolo Ansideri. Naturally both Lungarotti and Degli Esposti will sit in opposition, then Stefano Santoni and Francesca Sforna from Fratelli d’Italia, Giulio Provvidenza for the Lungarotti civica and Fabrizio Raspa from the Per Bastia civica list. Both the League and Forza Italia remain outside the city council.
