SULMONA. Prescriptions are arriving for the necropolis of one hundred tombs discovered in Sulmona, in the Case Pente area, where Snam is building the compression station. This was announced by the association of the legal intervention group which had asked the Superintendence to bind the area.
“Preventive archeology investigations were started in March 2023 in the area in the Case Pente area, affected by the construction of the ‘Central gas compression project and four connection lines’ by Snam Rete Gas, in compliance with the requirements set out in the VIA Decree no. 70 of 7-3-2011”, writes the Superintendence, underlining that the carrying out of these investigations has led, among other things, to the identification of a rustic building “currently partially brought to light” to be protected and conserve “through integral maintenance in situ”.
Since the analyzes of the case are still underway, “further provisions will be included in the subjugation measures to protect the area affected by the discovery, following the start of the declaration procedure referred to in articles 12 and 13 of Legislative Decree 42/2004 , which it is the intention of this Superintendence to undertake at the end of the complete investigations of the building whose extension also falls in an area not included among those owned by Snam Rete Gas, the application of a partial restriction would in fact be functional an existing and known complex, excluding the portions not yet investigated”.
The Superintendence recalls that “archaeological assets, once brought to light, are in any case protected by law and subject to the measures of the Cultural Heritage Code, even in the absence of an express provision; any interventions must always be authorized pursuant to articles 21 and 22 of Legislative Decree 42/2004”.
