In the middle of the night, last May 17, a team of workers intervened to cut the lime trees Acerbi garden, at Savena, to make way for the construction site of the new future Cavazzoni nest, one of the projects carried out by Palazzo d’Accursio with Pnrr funds. It was 4.30 in the morning and that nocturnal incursion, most likely decided to avoid obstructionism by the city’s “green” committees, was not digested by the residents of the area, many of whom gathered in the Cavazzoni committee against the reconstruction of the nursery in that green area used by many especially in summer.
The night cutting of trees on the construction site for the new nest
And so 15 of them, a couple of weeks ago, knocked at the San Ruffillo carabinieri barracks to file a complaint. The alleged crime: disturbance of people’s occupations or rest. The inhabitants overlooking the Acerbi garden they had promised it that night in mid-May and they did so, taking with them from the police images and videos of what unexpectedly happened that night. Together to the 15 citizens who filed a complaint, then another 13 made their names available to the Corps to be possibly heard as witnesses of what happened on the night of May 17th.
The complaint presented by the residents to the police
In the criminal complaint the residents note, in addition to the disturbance caused by the chainsaws in the middle of the night, that «the cutting of trees it occurred in an area devoid of any type of reporting and therefore accessible to all”, a situation which according to citizens “was very dangerous and risky for anyone who was passing by on foot at that moment”.
From authorizations to execution of works: what is reported
In fact, at the site of the demolition and in the immediate vicinity, the citizens specify in their complaint, «no notice of the start of construction was posted, felling trees, night or day, or any intervention in the days preceding the construction site. The many inhabitants of the area were never notified in any way of this intervention or of any other type of construction work for any reason». And then what happened that night: «The noise was infernal, it was still very dark and there was also great fear among the people, because the trees came down whole, not in pieces, and being very tall it was not possible to predict the exact place where they would crash”.

But not only that, the citizens who filed a criminal complaint also asked the police to “verify that they were present the necessary authorizations for felling trees». Residents reported that the demolition caused damage to some electric wells of the affected area, leaving the Acerbi garden in darkness on May 19th and part of the residents the following May 27th for Enel’s restoration intervention.
«After May 17 – conclude the 15 complainants – many inhabitants of the area, shocked by what happened, inquired in depth on the subject and discovered that in this period of the year tall trees they cannot be demolished.”
The Pnrr funds and those interventions that create protests in the city
In short, the citizens, despite the construction of the new Cavazzoni nursery now in full swing, are not giving up. And the Cavazzoni committee (of which many residents are members) also attacks Palazzo d’Accursio and the neighborhood, having fought for more than a year to prevent the new nursery from being built in that free green area close to the existing nest. «We renew the request to the administration – says the committee – for an urgent presence at the Acerbi garden to explain the construction works of the new Cavazzoni nursery. In recent weeks we have found countless irregularities in the entire management of the installation, starting from the first operation of demolition of 5 valuable lime trees».
