It was almost lunchtime, around half past twelve, when a motorbike and a van collided in Via Cassia, in Valdichiana. It is one of the busiest arteries in the Clanis valley as it connects Foiano della Chiana with Marciano della Chiana, in particular with Cesa.
And it was just a few kilometers from the roundabout in the Marsciano area that the collision occurred, again in the municipality of Marciano. A motorbike against a van.
The impact was extremely violent and the motorbike was thrown a few metres, causing serious damage.
As serious as the injuries of those who were driving it: the 36-year-old suffered a fractured femur, he will have it for at least three days. However, the driver of the four-wheeler was uninjured. The 118 emergency vehicles intervened on site with a nursed ambulance from Foiano della Chiana. After the first aid on site, the volunteers transferred the man to the Scotte di Siena emergency room, where he arrived in code three, i.e. red. His condition was considered serious but in the end, the hospital tells us, he only suffered a fracture, nothing to worry about.
His life is not in danger. The soldiers of the Cortona company also arrived on site, with a patrol from the Cortona Radiomobile. The military regulated traffic and carried out legal investigations. The dynamics are not yet clear and are being investigated: the military will be the ones to reconstruct the contours.
Traffic along the artery that also leads to the Autosole remained congested during the operations, for about a couple of hours. The blocked traffic forced some vehicles that were passing, either in the direction of Foiano or Cesa, to resort to “U-turns” so as not to get stuck along the road and arrive late at the table for lunch.
