Imola, 16 June 2024 – New look for the Old Town. They have arrived planters, benches And plantings and other street furniture to improve the decoration and liveability in the squares and streets of the centre. In recent days the installation and preparation of one has been carried out twenty pieces of furnitureamong planters and benches of different sizes, positioned in some points of the historic center.

An operation that was announced in recent months by the mayor. All of this, the municipal administration explains, “for the purpose of a redevelopment of spaces, responding to the needs of the city and maintaining the identity of the place. The intervention costs around 65 thousand euros and is part of the broader overall redevelopment project, which the Municipality has been implementing for some time to make the historic center more attractive, beautiful and livable”.

The flower boxes and the benches were placed in the square Fallen for Freedomon the way Emilia Easton the way Emilia West, in via Appia and in via Garibaldi in front of the entrance to the University. The planters and benches are made of corten steel, with the seating benches made of wooden decking slats. Inside the planters holm oaks, viburnum, Loropetalum, Osmanthus odorous (Olea fragrans).

Even with the investment in new furnishings (the 65 thousand euros mentioned) – said the mayor Marco Panieri – the steps for the relaunch of the historic center continue. After the relaunch of the former Dulcis, the assignment of the former Bacchilega, as well as the redevelopment of the former Telecom and State Property Agency premises. I also recently remember 75 thousand euros of non-repayable financing for merchants and businesses in the center aimed at the redevelopment and renovation of internal and external furnishings, systems and initiatives – continues the mayor -. The theme of urban decoration returns to the furnishings, which has always been very important for us, in synergy with the centre’s activities, and that of sustainability, having wanted to choose ‘green’ furnishings with naturalistic elements that contribute to the liveability of the streets and squares . The positioning was agreed not only with the flows and significant places of the city, but also with the interlocution and requests coming from the realities that live in the center, such as the University of Bologna”.

Attention was given, in fact, too at the University: “Some furnishings – specified Panieri – have been positioned near the headquarters also to facilitate students during their lunch breaks or moments outdoor. There are other things to do in the center, for example we are studying interventions on parking and other initiatives, but I believe that, especially in recent months and with the new openings, we are trying to achieve that change of pace that is within our reach. Reiterating the invitation to all the people of Imola to experience the historic center more, I believe an effort of perception and narration is also needed on the part of those who live and frequent it. With teamwork between the Municipality and citizens – concludes the mayor – we could really make a difference not only in the city, but also with those who observe, know and experience Imola from outside”.
