The three days dedicated to research and pedagogical planning to combat educational poverty and school dropout ended today in the Sala dei Baroni del Maschio Angioino. The national event sponsored by the Municipality of Naples and SIPED, the national pedagogy society, brought together over 1000 experts in 30 sessions of scientific debate, researchers and teachers discussing the issues of the educational needs of minors.
«Naples was a privileged meeting place for the Italian Society of Pedagogy – stated the president Pierluigi Malavasi – for Italian and foreign experts, gathered here for a scientific and programmatic discussion that brings insights for the fight against educational poverty which affects a quarter of minors in our country. A plague that sees Naples slightly decreasing in the school dropout trend in 2023, instead of Catania with its province, which also wears the black jersey for Europe. Deviant models find easy consensus also because they are amplified by a distorted and compulsive use of social media – say the scholars – The percentage of minors walking around armed is growing and episodes of violence, bullying and cyberbullying are multiplying”.
Dedicated to Alberto Manzi teacher and pedagogist who contributed to teaching reading and writing to Italians outside of school age with the television program “It’s never too late”, the IX National Conference awarded awards to 40 young researchers and research fellows from national universities and 4 lifetime achievement awards: Maria Teresa Moscato University of Bologna, Carmela Covato – professor of history of pedagogy Roma 3 who «dedicates her prize to the boy from Mali with the report card sewn into his jacket who drowned in one of the many refugee tragedies in the Mediterranean Sea».
Roberto Farnè for the chair of Didactics in Pedagogy at the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, and Cristina Coggi University of Turin. «Research and pedagogical planning to combat educational poverty and dropout from school» – as stated by the Councilor for Education and Family of the Municipality of Naples Maura Striano – «the work of the department aims to cross-reference the trends of school evasion with the action of the municipality’s social services which report cases of non-attendance to us, where often – he specifies – it is the families who are “disaffected” with the education system”.
«There is one fact that is still worrying – he explains Maura Striano – and this is what emerged from the data of the secondary school where young people show strong critical issues towards the training project, and for this reason we are launching targeted initiatives, with the “Childhood and Adolescence Table” together with the Third Sector, we will start from municipality of the historic center and then take the experimentation elsewhere. The critical issues in the school dropout rate – adds Striano – are concentrated in some areas of the city center but we also record them in Municipalities VII and VIII”. The aim is to recover the children towards a constructive dialogue with the city to extract energy from deviance and micro-crime – he declared in his speech in the Sala dei Baroni – in this sense we have implemented a path with 15 schools “Naples Educational City ” in collaboration with the “Pontifical Scholastic Foundation involving first and second level primary schools””.
At the end of the plenary session, Mayor Gaetano Manfredi expressed appreciation and sharing for the proposals and educational programs that emerged during the three days of work, and presented President Siped Malavasi with the medal of the city of Naples – «which – he declares – certifies that research laboratory and good practices at the center of the scientific, educational and social challenge, to deploy the best pedagogical energies to “save” a generation of children and very young people, especially in Southern Italy.
