Mazzola and Giralucci, 50 years after the double murder. Zaia’s appeal: «Never forget»

«On 17 June 1974 a tragic page in Italian history was written. With the brutal murder in Padua of Graziano Giralucci and Giuseppe Mazzola by the Red Brigades, one of the darkest periods of republican history began, because brutality began to replace politics with a capital P, violence in comparison, even harsh but always civil, considering a human being something to be destroyed.

Even today, 50 years later, I turn my thoughts to the families of the victims first and foremost and to the city of Padua which had to suffer this very serious disfigurement.”

Thus the president of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, expresses himself on the fiftieth anniversary of the killing of the two exponents of the Padua MSI by the Red Brigades in via Zabarella.

«Fortunately – he adds – democracy managed to prevail over violence in the end, but we must not forget, today as in a hundred years, why no one should ever again fall into the temptation of introducing brutality into political confrontation. The risk of extremization appears today to be largely removed. But if we forget the terror and dismay of those years of lead we would be making a huge mistake. Civic sense and mutual respect must be our guiding criteria from here to infinity, also to honor the memory of Graziano Giralucci and Giuseppe Mazzola.”

On Monday at 11am there will be a Municipality ceremony in via Zabarella, in front of the former MSI headquarters where the two militants were killed.

A right-wing demonstration is also planned: at 7pm a procession from Piazza Mazzini organized by Forza Nuova and Casa Pound with a concert at 9pm.
