Two young people were swept away by the current of the Brenta river today in the Padua area. One in particular remained desperately clinging to the tree trunks. To recover him, a fire brigade diver lowered himself from the helicopter and reached him, bringing him safely to shore.
A new near tragedy after that of Natisone today in Veneto. Two young people were dragged away by the current of the Brenta river, in the Padua area, and they saved themselves at the last moment and in a daring way. One of them in particular remained desperately clinging to the trunks of the trees emerging from the water and finally recovered by the firefighters.
The episode in the early afternoon today, Saturday 15 June, when a rescue call arrived at the emergency services, around 2pm, warning of a person in difficulty clinging to a tree in the waters of the Brenta river, in the municipality of Fontaniva.
The rescue car left immediately. Firefighters from the Cittadella detachment were sent to the scene, assisted shortly afterwards by a SAF (Alpine Fluvial Speleo) team from Padua, and by the Drago 149 helicopter which took off from Venice with divers on board.

When the firefighters arrived, one of the two boys had already reached the shore and was safe while the second was still attached to a trunk, lying on the branch almost at the water’s surface. To recover the young man on the log, a diver lowered himself from the helicopter and reached him, bringing him safely to shore. The other boy on the bank was instead loaded directly on board by the helicopter that landed on the river bank.
The intervention of the firefighters ended successfully around 4pm and none of those involved suffered serious injuries but only a great scare. According to an initial reconstruction, it seems that the two had an affair attempted river crossing but they were overwhelmed by the strong current.
The images of rescuers in action in the area are frightening and unfortunately recall the Natisone tragedy where three boys were stuck in the middle of the stream in Friuli and were dragged away before help could reach them.
