Gunshots in Villafranca di Verona on Wednesday evening: two people taken to hospital, one of whom died during the night.

According to an initial reconstruction by the carabinieri, the incident began around 9pm in Piazza Castello, where a fight broke out between carnies for reasons related to the location of the traveling shows on the occasion of the Saints Peter and Paul Fair which is held in the center Veronese these days. A furious argument in which about ten people were said to have participated and during which a young man was seriously injured, to the point that after receiving initial treatment he was taken to the Borgo Trento hospital.
The situation seemed to have calmed down, to the point that the contenders moved to Viale Olimpia, near the municipal swimming pools, to try to resolve the dispute. There, however, tempers flared up again, until one of those present pulled out a gun and fired a few shots at a 75-year-old, who was transported in serious condition to the Magalini hospital, where he died in the early hours of Thursday. . At the same time, some gunshots apparently hit a 49-year-old, who in turn is part of the group of carnies, who was in turn taken to the Villafranca hospital for serious injuries to his leg.

The Carabinieri from Villafranca di Verona, soldiers from the Investigative Unit of the Provincial Command and the SIS (Scientific Investigations Section) intervened on site and are carrying out the investigations under the directives of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Verona.
