World Refugee Day, a celebration of welcome and inclusion Thursday 27 June at “Casa S.Croce”

The Municipality of Andria and the “Migrantesliberi” social and solidarity cooperative open the doors of “Casa S. Croce”, in memory of R. Livatino, victim of the Sicilian mafia in the 1990s, to celebrate the World Refugee Day (GMdR). This event represents an important opportunity to reflect on the values ​​of welcome, integration and solidarity towards migrant people present in our territory.

«The day is based on the word “Welcome”, which translates into a series of daily acts aimed at supporting the social inclusion of migrants, encouraging their participation in the social network and preventing marginalization – comments Don Geremia Acri – Andria appears more and more welcoming every day – underlines the Councillor Conversano – through the SAI project, the Social Services Sector of the Municipality of Andria is trying to reduce the social, cultural and economic gap between the different ethnic groups, guaranteeing parity and equality as enshrined in our Constitution and the Geneva Convention of 1951. On this special day , holders of international protection and applicants for international protection are honored by recognizing the suffering they face on their migratory journey. Separation from their country, violence and extreme poverty are just some of the challenges these individuals must overcome to seek a better life.”

The Program of the Day of June 27th 2024 at Casa S. Croce will be divided intofrom 6.00pm to 8.00pmthrough:
– Testimonies and discussions: guests and operators will share their reception experiences, analyzing the topic of migration together with the participants.
– Screening of a documentary story: a video will summarize the activities carried out by the SAI beneficiaries in the first decade of the “Come.Te” Project of the Municipality of Andria.
– On this occasion, a pomegranate tree will be planted, donated by the “3PLACE” association, a symbol of interaction between communities and environmental awareness.
– Guests will prepare drinks typical of their countries of origin, recalling the importance of welcoming different cultural customs.
– Each participant will be able to choose a photo enriched by a sentence reported by the beneficiaries of the SAI network, regarding their reception experience.
– SAI beneficiaries will distribute bookmarks with the colors of the flag and articles of the Italian Constitution, promoting active citizenship.

Through concrete and symbolic activities, the message of welcome and integration, essential for the future of our communities, is strengthened.” For the Municipal Administration, the councilor for Personnel Dora Conversano will be present.
