The last few weeks have been stingy with rain in much of the South, and in particular also in Sicily where the drought emergency has worsened, which has now seen the region struggling for months with very little rain. Actually the month of May had given rise to hope for the long-awaited turning point: with monthly rainfall amounts more than double the average, it seemed that atmospheric circulation had finally taken a new direction, capable of regularly bringing rainy disturbances to the Island. And instead, here is June that has once again turned towards drought!

In fact, after a 2023 in which Sicily lacked almost a quarter of the rain that normally falls in a year, even This first part of 2024 has seen a significant lack of rain on the island in almost every monthwith the exception of May, as mentioned. Even in June the rains were decidedly scarce, and the effects on the territory are visible: basins almost dried up, dry land and crops in great difficulty. And unfortunately, even the worsening that the bad weather is expected to bring to the South in the next few days seems destined to leave Sicilians high and dry once again.
