The Sabir association, founded in 2017, inaugurated its new headquarters in Crotone, a place that represents a beacon of solidarity for the local community. The afternoon of June 14th was marked by an important celebration, which saw the participation of numerous community members and representatives of local institutions. This new headquarters not only offers a physical space, but is configured as a real point of reference for those looking for support and inclusion.
The new Sabir headquarters is located in viale Stazione 16, inside a two-storey building with a total surface area of 500 square metres. The structure has been completely renovated to accommodate various areas dedicated to the association’s activities:
Listening Desk: a place where those in need can find listening and support.
Solidarity tailoring: a laboratory that combines creativity and solidarity, offering opportunities for training and work inclusion.
Protected Listening Room: a safe space for minor victims or witnesses of violence.
‘A Casa di Iulia’ Center: dedicated to psychoeducational and speech therapy services for children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders.
The first floor houses the administrative offices, a spacious meeting room and a small kitchen, making the working environment welcoming and functional, almost like a second home.
During the inauguration, Manuelita Scigliano, president of Sabir, expressed with emotion the importance of this new headquarters for the association. “Ours is not a simple job, but a real mission. We have gone through many difficulties and will probably go through many more, but the belief that we can do it has never abandoned us. And here we are: in an area accustomed to resignation, we are demonstrating that beautiful realities like ours can not only continue, but also improve, becoming a point of reference for the entire community,” she declared.
The vice president, Giuseppe Di Gioia, thanked those present and reiterated the importance of unity in the third sector to achieve common objectives for the benefit of the most vulnerable people.
The ceremony was attended by the mayor of Crotone, Vincenzo Voce, who underlined the value of the third sector both in terms of social intervention and as an employment opportunity. The deputy commissioner of Crotone, Leonida Marseglia, praised the importance of associations, highlighting how associations often fill gaps left by public administrations.
Enzo Poerio, municipal councilor of Casabona, participated on behalf of the local administration and offered his support to Sabir’s project for the creation of a therapeutic farm. This project, promoted by Sabir and supported by Fondazione con il Sud, involves the production of donkey milk and onotherapy, a therapeutic support activity through interaction with donkeys.
The new Sabir headquarters represents not only a goal but also a new starting point. With innovative projects and constant commitment, the association continues to make a difference in the social fabric of Crotone. The inaugurated headquarters is not just a building, but a symbol of hope and inclusion, a place where the community finds support and opportunities to build a better future.
