«Tragic page of Italian history»

PADUA – «On 17 June 1974 a tragic page in Italian history was written. With the brutal murder in Padua of Graziano Giralucci and Giuseppe Mazzola by the Red Brigades, one of the darkest periods in republican history began, because brutality began to replace politics with a capital P, violence in comparison, even harsh but always civil, considering a human being something to be destroyed. Even today, 50 years later, I turn my thoughts to the families of the victims first and foremost and to the city of Padua which immediately suffered this very serious disfigurement.”

So the President of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia expresses itself on the fiftieth anniversary of the killing of the two members of theMSI from Padua by the red brigades. «Fortunately – he adds – democracy managed to prevail over violence in the end, but we must not forget, today as in a hundred years, why no one should ever again fall into the temptation of introducing brutality into political confrontation. The risk of extremism appears to have largely disappeared today – adds the Governor – but if we forget the terror and dismay of those years of lead we would be making a huge mistake. Civic sense and mutual respect must be our guiding criteria from here to infinity, also to honor the memory of Graziano Giralucci and Giuseppe Mazzola.”
