Discover the city, unite in friendship. A day of fun and friendship: young volunteers and students discovering Lucca

The National Center for Volunteering recently organized a special day dedicated to young people from Lucca and beyond, in collaboration with thePertini InstituteThe Provincial Libertas Center and many other realities of the city. This event, born from an idea of two young students from Pertini saw the making of one treasure hunt to discover Lucca. An initiative that brought together young local and international volunteers, unaccompanied foreign minors and young migrants welcomed into the communities and cooperatives of Lucca, CNV operators and volunteers fromTuscany Tuscany Tutorial Association and Libertas Lucca, in a day of aggregation and friendship.

The Idea and Planning

The idea of organizing a treasure hunt was born from the enthusiasm and creativity of Grace Diolaiuti And Fahmida Sharmin Iman, two students from 3Bitt, Tourist Technician of Pertini. With Rebecca Tozzetti and Michela Tortelli of the project GREAT!, they conceived an activity based on clues scattered around the city and on the internet. The main objective was to make the participants better acquainted with Lucca, while promoting citizenship education.

Planning the event required considerable effort from everyone involved. After an initial pizza party to get to know each other, the participants divided into teams and began the treasure hunt. The clues guided them through the many evocative corners of Lucca, allowing them to explore the city in a fun and educational way.

Participation and Involvement

The event saw the participation of a first class at the Pertini Instituteyoung volunteers both local and from abroad thanks to the European Solidarity Corps, unaccompanied foreign minors and young migrants welcomed into the communities and cooperatives of Lucca, together with the participants of the Learn to Learn project. This diversity enriched the experience, encouraging meeting and sharing between young people of different origins and backgrounds.

CNV operators and volunteers from partner organizations played a crucial role in organizing and supervising the event. Their presence ensured that everything ran smoothly and that every participant could get the most out of the experience.

An Example of Inclusion and Solidarity

The event represented a successful and beautiful example of aggregation between young people, without distinction of origin. The treasure hunt offered participants not only the opportunity to learn more about Lucca, but also to create bonds and friendships. This was possible thanks to the sensitivity and constant effort of the Pertini Institute on the issues of inclusion and solidarity, and to projects such as GRANDE and “Learning to Learn – Let’s Walk Together”.

The BIG project, acronym for Young Foreign Accompanied in Inclusion Paths, represents an integrated intervention model that allows unaccompanied foreign minors (MSNA) about to become adults and former MSNA in administrative proceedings, to face the transition from the protected context to autonomy. This project aims to complete the educational and/or training path of young people, facilitating their access to the world of work and promoting their economic independence for the benefit of both them and the host territory. The fulcrum of the project is participatory construction and accompaniment in a Individual Path of Autonomy and Integration (PIAI)with the support of a Social Guardian or Designated Manager as the young person’s reference figure.

On the other hand, the project “Learning to Learn – Let’s Walk Together” it is an initiative of Municipality of Lucca and of theItaca voluntary associationin collaboration with Libertas, Odyssey Social cooperative, AICS Provincial Committee of Lucca, Fuoricentro Spazio Teatro, Lillero APS And Everyone’s Land. This project offers high school students living in Lucca the opportunity to undertake a path of volunteering and active citizenship, taking on the role of tutor for primary school children in the Municipality of Lucca. It is an educational experience that not only enriches the children involved, but also contributes to creating a more cohesive and supportive community.

The Day and Its Results

The day began with a pizza party which allowed the participants to socialize and create an atmosphere of friendship. Subsequently, the teams set off to discover Lucca, following the clues prepared by Grace, Fahmida and Rebecca. The treasure hunt was a success, with participants exploring the city, solving puzzles and discovering hidden places.

The final result was an event that combined fun, education and solidarity. Young people had the opportunity to learn more about the city in which they live or which hosts them, to make new friends and to feel part of a larger community. This type of activity demonstrates how citizenship education can be implemented in a creative and engaging way, contributing to building a more inclusive society.

In conclusion, the day represented a virtuous example of how to network between different realities can lead to extraordinary results. The event demonstrated that inclusion and solidarity are fundamental values that can be promoted through recreational and training activities. AND a model that can be replicated in other realitiesto encourage meeting and sharing between young people of different backgrounds and to promote a culture of welcome and mutual respect.
