The vice mayor and councilor for the environment of the Municipality of Aprilia, Vittorio Marchitti, reply to accusations launched in the last few hours by Aprilia Civic on the story of the general director of Progetto Ambiente, Francesco Girardi, who seems to be leaving the position after just 8 months, and on the in-house assignment of the company. Aprilia Civica accused the municipal administration and councilor Marchitti of superficiality and of not having a real political plan. “Free attacks,” replies Marchitti, “but the numbers don’t lie.” And he gives as an example the comforting data achieved for separate waste collection and the slight decrease in the Tari tariff. “Particular attention was also paid to incorrect waste disposal by domestic users – he underlined – and checks were started by the Environmental Project and the Local Police which led to sanctions”.

“If this is the level of nonsense and demagoguery, long live this opposition. For over a year the scribes of Aprilia Civica have been looking for a scapegoat, directing gratuitous, often disjointed attacks, cartoons of dubious taste, imaginative theories towards the undersigned, denoting a childish and careless style, which demonstrates the low level to which they have sunk. Despite this, I have maintained and will continue to maintain absolute serenity, with a style dedicated to work and less to the controversy that citizens are not very passionate about.
On the merits, let’s go to the numbers that never lie, compared to the opposition’s chatter.
Upon taking office I found separate waste collection decreasing to 67% in the first half of ’23, which in the second half of ’23 we brought to exceed 72%, and today the first quarter of ’24 provides us with even more comforting data at 74%. To this figure it must be added that in the TARI balance citizens will find a slightly decreasing tariff as we approved in the last budget.
A percentage achieved through contrast policies implemented starting from June ’23. If camera traps represent a precious ally in the fight against the wild abandonment of waste in the streets, which we cannot lower our guard against because it is still a difficult phenomenon to eradicate, – continues Vittorio Marchitti – particular attention was also paid to incorrect disposals of domestic users and not, a bad habit that had caused a decrease in the percentage of separate waste collection and the risk of an increase in disposal costs proportional to the increase in tons of non-recyclable waste collected and destined for disposal.
Furthermore, the checks carried out by the operators of the Environmental Project and the Local Police made it possible to sanction the bad habit of displaying waste without any tub or leaving it on the edge of the pavement for days on end. This has allowed and is allowing the data of the actual residences to be cross-referenced with those registered in the TARI register, increasing the possibility of identifying tax evaders and evaders, where this phenomenon is more frequent.
At the same time, an awareness-raising activity was carried out with the help of the condominium administrators through targeted meetings aimed at verifying “internal” solutions for the display of the tubs. This, we find in everyday life, leads the citizens-users themselves to pay greater attention to the methods of waste disposal, with a more vigilant eye on reducing it.
On the green side, I have already said that it seems ungenerous to me to put the cross on the workers, who with minimal resources make the numbers of cuts that we have published, rather than late. Obviously it will be our task to modify for the better that green service contract which some “lonely people” know well for having structured it in an absolutely insufficient way as it currently exists. In fact, through the Environment Sector, in these summer weeks, we will support a further extraordinary mowing service.
By closing on the temporal extension of the in-house assignment to Progetto Ambiente, the opposition gentlemen are lying knowing they are lying: the City Council has given a clear direction, after the repeal of the regional regulation on EGATO, regarding the desire to extend the service, but only after the discussion and approval of a new industrial plan.
The superficiality therefore lies entirely in the lucubrations of those who thought they had a scepter “pro domo sua”, instead of projecting a clear vision of the company and the service in favor of the citizens.
