“Vastaso is you!”. The Coppola dispute

“Vastaso is you!”. The Coppola dispute

If this is the unity of the opposition, Massimo Grillo can be the Mayor of Marsala for another hundred years. Yesterday there was a dispute between Rino Passalacqua and Flavio Coppola in the city council.

The starting point of the argument was the debate on differentiated autonomy and the opposing position of most of the councilors. Coppola intervened to talk about the merits of the previous political class, defined as “far-sighted”, recalling some important works, such as those for the purification plant “while today we only think about making cycle paths”.

Passalacqua, councilor of the previous council, felt involved in the reference and big words flew out of the microphone. From “what are you saying…” to insults it took a moment. “Ignorant!”. “I am ignorant but you are hypocrites.” And then a mutual “Vastaso!”.

Passalacqua is gone. While Coppola intervened to say that without Passalacqua’s public apology he will no longer participate in the council.

For the rest, this is the news from yesterday’s council:

Yesterday’s City Council meeting, at Palazzo VII Aprile in Marsala, was entirely chaired by E. Milazzo. It opened the proceedings in the presence of 15 councillors, some of whom spoke for communications. Many interventions, first and foremost P. Cavasino, concerned differentiated autonomy, fueling a debate in the Chamber which concluded with an analysis by F. Coppola and E. Milazzo’s proposal for a Council initiative aimed at expressing perplexities and/or opposition to differentiated autonomy. Below are the interventions of the councilors, at the end of which we moved on to the approval of the policy document “Updating the advertising systems plan” signed by several councilors, as well as the vote on two off-balance sheet debts, on the second of which it is then the quorum failed, postponing the work to this afternoon.

P. Ferrantelli, solidarity with the Indian worker victim of gangmastering (the president E. Milazzo expressed the condolences of the Chamber); inconveniences in urban transport. E. Martinico, water problem and lack of video surveillance in wells; dangerous roadworks in Pastorella; guarantee safety, decorum and cleanliness for citizens. M. Fernandez, asks for clarification on the ban on bathing in San Teodoro. R. Passalacqua, safety problem in the city. M. Rodriquez, complains about the lack of video surveillance at water stations; continuing lack of public lighting on the Mediterranean seafront. R. Genna, verify the presence of non-EU citizens on the municipal territory, check the existence of gang-mastering phenomena, an unseemly situation under the porticoes of the Municipal Palace for uncivilized non-EU citizens who camp there; serious safety issue, which cannot be underestimated and to which there is little attention from the Administration. P. Carnese, faced with the water emergency we need to have a plan “B” for the benefit of the community; blue stripes source of resources and, therefore, should be expanded.

After the approval of the “Updating of the advertising systems plan” (attached here) – illustrated by L. Orlando – the councilor S. Agate intervened. He responded to some requests for clarification from the councillors, even if not within his competence, also stating that Mayor Grillo had long since sent a directive to the water sector to secure all sensitive sites. Once the video surveillance systems were placed near the wells, the safety measures were not carried out Sinubio, which will be addressed promptly.

The Chamber then proceeded to discuss two off-balance sheet debts (15 had been withdrawn). Once the first was approved (point 9), when the next point 10 was voted on, the quorum was no longer present. As per the Regulations, President Milazzo adjourned the proceedings to this afternoon (4.30 pm).
